RENO, NV (Aug. 9) — This weekend signaled the end of Hot August Nights as well as related event at the Grand Sierra Resort. There were also a couple of car meets.
• On Saturday Auto Motion had a meet at its location on Telegraph Street. Due to the heart and Hot August Nights the turn out, as expected, was low.
Still there were some cars parked so others could see check them out.
• The Grand Sierra Resort had its own event from Wednesday through Saturday evening. It was called Street Heat, Reno Hottest Car Show.
The main entrance had several lines of cars in it. Spectators wandered up and down the rows looking at the cars.
Over on one side there was a vintage Corvette by two other classic GM cars.
The southwest parking was full of cars with most outside but some in tents. Over in one corner was a stage where the nightly entertainment happened.
The cars were parked in long rows that had everything including pick up trucks and a few vans.
Over by a tent there were two cars from California. In fact a lot of cars come over from California. One was a Chevy station wagon while the other an Oldsmobile 442.
A large part of one row was occupied by the Old Slammers of Reno. This club is for vintage VWs and many are decorated.
Despite the heat the place was packed since it was the event’s final night.
• As expected the turnout for Sparks Cars & Coffee was on the light side. Since some of the regulars were involved with Hot August, plus the heat this was expected.
However there were a bunch of cars. One row had a Mustang, Cobra and a few Corvettes in it. Variety is part of any Cars & Coffee event.
There was also a great looking Nissan NX. A bunch of people were giving were giving the car admiring looks.
Another row had a Corvette, whose owner parked it in the shade. It was in a row with another Corvette, BMW and Porsche.
One person didn’t mind the low turn out. The extra space allowed Gavin to tool around in his miniature Lexus.
• In downtown Reno there was the annual Hot August Nights Parade. Awards are handed out while spectators get a final chance to see and photograph many of the cars.
The final vehicle had a thank you sign and invited everyone back next year.
Next Sunday both Reno Jeeps & Coffee as well as Reno Cars & Coffee are having meets.
• On Tuesday, starting at 6:30, Trucks & Tacos of Northern Nevada will meet. The location this time is Los Portrillos Taqueria at 308 Mill Street in Reno.
• The 30th Anniversary of the Vegas to Reno off-road race is going “The Other Way,” or run north to south.
The J Casino is where things happen in Reno. On Tuesday, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., teams register and have qualifying information handed out. Thursday is when everything moves to the Fairgrounds in Dayton for qualifying then Thursday everyone returns to the J Casino for tech inspection.

• Northern Nevada Kart Club put out an important announcement. Due to the fires access to Desert Park Raceway is restricted.
• There are three events that happen on Wednesday.
- Starting at 5 p.m. the Sparks A&W has its weekly Cruise Night. Location is 1311 Baring Blvd., across from Reed High School.
- At that same time PJ&CO has its weekly Bike Nights. Great bikes, good people as well as great food and drink. Location is 1590 South Wells just north of the roundabout.
– Later that evening, starting at 6:30, Crazy D’s Hot Chicken has a Bike Night. All bikes are welcome and the location is 3652 South Virginia Street, #C1, in Reno.
• Davey’s American Racing can be found on Face Book.
He also posts schedules for various tracks and there related subjects.
