RENO, NV (Sept 3) : We’re finally out of August and diving into one of the biggest racing weekends of the year. In addition there are plenty of car meets on tap.
CAR MEETS:
••• Thursday gets going around 8 a.m. when cruisers gather at Kim’s Donut & Tea Shop. Location is 1328 U.S. Highway 395 North.
- If you like Ice Cream there are on a pair of Thursday Cruznite’s left. Informal cruise up 395, turn left on 70, over the hill then look for the turnoff to Frenchmans Lake.
- That evening, starting at 6 p.m. it’s Thursday Night Thunder at Pinocchio’s Bar & Grill.
••• Friday gets busy as well.
-Right around 6:30 at the Maverik, located at Sutro & North McCarran, is when the Reno Bike Community meets. Then around 7 its kick stands up and away they go.
- Not far away, in the Northtowne parking area V Dub club starts to gather around 6:45 and sometime after 7 they start their cruise.
- Over in Sparks its Low Rider Cruise Night at El Original Tacos Tijuana. Starts at 5 p.m. at 2201 Prater Way in Sparks.
- To the south Carson Cars & Coffee, starting a 6:30, has Friday Night Dutch. Location is 1231 S. Carson Street.
••• Saturday starts at 9:30 a.m. when Carson Cars & Coffee has a special meet a Bully’s Sports Ba & Grill has a meet where the vehicles, even boats, are judged for prizes.
- Here in Reno Obsolete Iron Car Club is ending the summer with the Last Bash. Cars are put into classes where they are judged and at 2 p.m. trophies are handed out. Location is Lazy 5 Regional Park, 7100 Pyramid Way in Sparks.
- To the south Gardnerville Cars & Coffee has their meet. Starts at 10 a.m. and is a Kim’s Donuts. Location is 1331 US-395 North.
- If you want to help a good cause the Rosewood Rehabilitation parking lot is having a Car/Bike Show with Street Tacos. Starts a 3 p.m. and is located a 2045 Silverada Blvd., in Reno.
- To the south Carson Cars & Coffee, starting at 6:30 p.m. has Saturday Night Dutch. Location is the Dutch Bros Coffee at 1231 South Carson.
••• Sunday starts early, a 9 a.m., when Reno Jeeps & Coffee assembles for a Lockwood VC Run. Meet at McDonalds on 2025 Brierley Way in Sparks.
- Reno Sparks & Coffee meets, starting at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Human Bean located close to the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes.
- Northern Nevada Classics, starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, is hosting this year’s grand finale Brunch N Classics. Location is the west parking lot of Baldini’s Casino at 865 South Rock.
- To the south, starting at 6:30 p.m. Carson Cars & Coffee is hosting Sunday Night Dutch Bike Meet. Location is Dutch Bros. Coffee a 1231 South Carson Street.
••• RACING (4-WHEEL, REGIONAL):
To the east Lovelock Speedway is having racing on Friday and Saturday nights. The show usually begins around 6 p.m. and it paved roads to the track.
••• PRACTICE AND RACING ( MOTOCROSS):
- Good news Reno-Fernley Raceway is having a fall reopening of the motocross tract on Sunday. Times are 9 until 1 and they have two tracks.
• REP Racing is also busy although the Sandbox will be closed until the third weekend in the month.
- Riverfront has practice for big and mini bike then Sunday is open practice. PCMX is books for the weekend as the SOT Nationals are racing there.
• E-Street MX Park is hosting round 7 of this year’s Summer Sundayz series.
• MMX Racing has practice from 8 until 1 Friday on the Sand and Kid’s tracks. Then at those same times the main is added. Finally Sunday, runs from 8 until 2 p.m., and the Vintage track is added
• For everyone that races in the BBMX series, round 2, will be next weekend at the Stead Motocross track. This is great to get ahead of things.
•••RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL)
There are classic races this weekend both here and abroad.
- NASCAR is at Darlington or as it is also know the Lady in Black or the Track too Tough to Tame. All the races are behind pay walls.
- Indy Car on the other hand uses some of FOX channels that are pay for view, but the big show is live on FOX. I believe it is the season ending race.
•• On Thursday, at 7:30 a.m., Apple TV has Formula 1 Warm-Up from the classic track at Monza. Then at 4 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has Kevin Havick’s Happy Hour and at 8 p.m. the network airs Speed.
•• Friday is empty. However if you’ve missed any races and want to see the highlights try, www.youtube.com.
•• There is only the O’Reilly Auto Parks Series on Saturday. The CW network carries the event and is starts at 4:30 p.m.

•• Sunday, starting at 4:50 a.m. is when AppleTV airs the Formula 1 from the classic track at Monza. It’s all high speeds through the park.
The TruTV network comes on at 5 p.m. as they broadcast the FIA World Endurance event from COTA that is outside of Austin, Texas.
Fox comes on at noon with the Indy Car Race from Laguna Seca. Great reason to see the race and visit the Monterey area.
The NASCAR Cup event starts at 3 p.m. followed at 5:30 when Fox 1 airs the ARCA Racing event from DuQuoin.
•• Monday is a huge day for NHRA racers as it sets the stage for the countdown to the class championships and Fox 1 carries the load for the NHRA U.S. Nationals.
- Qualifying show #1 is at noon followed at 4 p.m. by the FC All-Star Callout.
- Qualifying show #2 is at 7:30 p.m. and the finals start at 9 p.m. It’s a marathon for those fans and one last chance for a driver to make the chase.

Long time readers probably noticed there was no weekend article at the end of September. Anyway been dealing with health issues and told them I was leaving today and will see them Thursday afternoon. On the good side, almost overdosed on women’s college volleyball, a sport I used to report. Have to see what happens.

• Last Saturday two Gardnerville natives finish the Pro Motocross season at the Crawfordsville track.
- For Lachlan Turned it was a banner day. She now is a three-time WMX Champion and one of them was in Australia.
- Sadly her brother Lux was plagued with mechanical problems although he did finish in the top 20 for the 250 class.
• Davey’s American Racing advertises for many of the oval tracks on the west coast and can be found on Face Book..
He also posts schedules for various tracks and there related subjects.
