RENO, NV (Sept 14) — There were several car meets this weekend. This reporter was able to report three of them.
• Saturday evening Ed Hughes organized a cruise in at the Sparks A&W. Originally it was for 80’s and 90’s cars but actually welcomed every year.
Along the Baring Blvd. side there was a long row of pick up as well as a few cars. They varied in years with a mix of imports and American Iron.
Not far away there was a Honda sedan parked next to a Subaru Station Wagon. Believe the Honda was in the 80’s group.
There was also this beautiful restored 1967 Toyota Corona. Another example of how people are giving new lives to older vehicles.
Past the trucks on the Baring side there were several cars. While most were sedans there was a Cobra in the row.
Over in one corner there were several imports parked together. Right now there is another one of these slated for October 10, which is a Saturday.

• Sunday morning Doyle Lexus had its annual Cars & Coffee show. The result was diminished car counts in two other meets as it was so big.
• Sparks Cars & Coffee meet at the usual place by Starbucks off Disk Drive. While the turnout was lower than normal there were a variety of cars present including a very nice 1979 Trans Am.
There was also a Mercury Capri that is a regular to most car meets.
Over at the end of one row a 1940 Ford Tudor was parked by at Buick Skylark.
Former Go Kart racer Eric Seltzer owns the 1965 Skylark. Asked about he said, “It’s a two-door hardtop, I bought it in 2012 as it needed a complete restoration. I finished it in 2016, 10 years ago.
“So I put a LS1 V-8 in it, out of a ’98 Firebird with an automatic transmission, 330 horse power. Suspension is all new, disc brakes all around, coil over shocks all around, tubular A Arms and it handles real well.”
Asked how does it drive Seltzer said, “It drives excellent, a good handling car. You can really throw it into a turn and I good highway car. I’ve driven it to San Diego, Los Angeles, to Sacramento a couple of times. It’s great on the highway, easy to drive.”

In the mix were two vintage VW Beetles sedans parked together.
Just before everyone started leaving another driver arrived. He brought his vintage VW Bus to the meet.
• Sunday afternoon was the year’s final Summit Racing Equipment Cruise In. As expected the turn out was low but filled one row.
Down at one end several cars had their hoods up. That way spectators could see the engine work their owners had done.
Probably the most unusual car was a dragster driven in from a near by shop.
Owner Joe Moore said, “It’s a ’68 Chevelle it’s a play toy to me. Got a 565 cubic inch motor in it, short rear end it’s made for 1/8th mile street outlaw program. It ran a 4.91 at 164 miles an hour in an 8th mile in Arizona. I’ve had it about 5 years now, drove it here from my shop as it’s right down the street here.
“Can’t run it for a long time, maybe 8 to nine minutes on it. Out in Winnemucca there’s Nevada Outlaw and I was going to go and try to run with those guys as they have a 6 second and a 7 second-class. It’s a chassis car, the main body of the car is original metal and the rest of it is all Fiber Glass, one-piece front end but the hood’s separate from that.

Many times two owners bring their 1950’s era Ford Pick Ups to meets. They sure add some color to where ever they appear.
• This Tuesday, starting at 6:30 p.m. Trucks & Tacos of Northern Nevada will meet at the Taco T Food Truck at 8995 Lemmon Drive.
• Wednesday has three things happening:
- Starting at 5 p.m. PJ&CO, located at 1590 South Wells in Reno has its weekly Bike Night. Usually great bikes to see, great people to meet not to mention great food and drink.
- The Sparks A&W, starting at 5 p.m., has its usual Cruise Night with a live D.J., music and prizes. Location is 1311 Baring Blvd. across from Reed High School.
– Later the evening, starting at 6:30 p.m., Crazy D’s Hot Chicken has its weekly Bike Night. All bikes are welcome and the location is 3652 South Virginia Street in Reno.
OTHER RACING NEWS
• Round 1 of the MX Supercross Championship was as mud bath. Gardnerville native, Lux Turner, races in the 250 Class as a privateer. He started 10th in Moto 1, then 11th in Moto 2 and ended up 11th overall.
• Davey’s American Racing can be found on Face Book.
He also posts schedules for various tracks and there related subjects.
