RENO, NV (Sept. 23): As we head into fall the final weekend of September is a busy one. There are many car meets, oval track racing as well as more on TV and the Internet. The weather will cool a bit but be quite mild.
CAR MEETS:
•• Thursday begins around 8 a.m. when Kim’s Donut & Tea House is visited by Kim’s Cruisers. Everyone is welcome and the location is 1328 U.S. Highway 395 North in Gardnerville.
- That evening, starting around 6 p.m. it’s Thursday Night Thunder at Pinocchio’s Bar & Grill. Location is 5995 Sout Virginia Street in Reno.
- Thursday is also when the annual Street Vibrations comes to this area. There will be events in Reno, Carson City and Virginia City through Saturday.
+ Reno Harley Davidson has a weekend full of bikes and activities. Also included the popular Ball of Death.
+ Down in Carson City, Battle Born Harley Davidson has a full list of things during Street Vibrations.
+ Back in Reno the J Resort has a show at the Glow Plaza each day. There is an admission charge for this.
•• Friday starts early as Street Vibrations takes over C Street in Virginia City. There will be many vendors, entertainment not to mention a huge amount of bikes to admire.
- That evening starting at 6 p.m. the Reno Bike Community gathers at the Maverik located on the corner of Sutro and North McCarran. Then its kickstands up around 7 for their weekly cruise.
- Over in the Northtowne parking area Old Slammers of Reno, starting around 6:30 begin to gather for their weekly Cruise. They usually start sometime around 7 p.m.
- To the South it’s the Friday Night Dutch hosted by Carson Cars & Coffee. Starts around 6:30 p.m. at the Dutch Bros. Coffee located at 1231 South Carson Street.
•• Saturday is a marathon.
- Gardnerville Cars & Coffee at 10 a.m. gathers at Kim’s Donuts. Location is 1331 US-395 North in Gardnerville.
- Starting at 9 a.m. the Impalas Car Club gathers at Sun Valley Community Park. This car show supports Forever 14, a group working to support suicide awareness in young people.
- To the east, starting at 9 a.m., the Fallon Theatre presents the 10th annual Show-N-Shine. This is on Main Street and helps the Fallon Theatre.
- Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. is the 3rd annual Stagecoach Classic fall Car Show.
- Around 11 a.m. there is a gathering of Street Vibrations riders at the Nothtowne WinCo parking lot. Noon is when kickstands go up and I’m guessing they’ll ride up to Virginia City.
- At Mills Park in Carson City, it’s the fourth Annual Show & Shine hosted by Square Body Passion Car Club. Starts at noon, all makes and models are welcome.
- Saturday is when Reno Cars & Classics has its final meet for this year. Event starts at 6 p.m. and the location is by the Sonic on South Virginia Street next to the 5 Minute Oil Change.
- Carson Cars & Coffee ends the day at 6:30 with Saturday Night Dutch. Location is the Dutch Bros Coffee stand at the south end of Carson City.
•• Sunday is almost a slow day.
- Northern Nevada Classics host the 6th annual Hounds & Hot Rods event. Starts at 9 a.m. and location is Baldini’s Casino at 865 South Rock Blvd. in Sparks.
- Sparks Cars & Coffee hosts its second meet of the month starting at 10 a.m. by the Starbucks on Disk Drive. Go north on Pyramid, over the hill then turn right on Disk, it’s by the signal.
- To the south Carson Cars & Coffee has its Sunday Dutch Bike Night. Once again by the Dutch Bros. Coffee stand at 1231 South Carson Street.
- A good way to unwind from the weekend is the Modelo Sunday Cruise In and Kickback. Starts at 5 p.m. and is at 195 West Plumb Lane in Reno.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• To the east on Saturday Top Gun Dragstrip, located south of Fallon, is hosting Battle of the Badge where Police and Sheriff Office race each other. Racing starts at noon with discounts for kids, seniors as well as military.
• Tonopah Speedway is ending its season with racing on Friday and Saturday. I believe things get going around 6 and there is extra prize money for Sport Mods and another class.
• Up north Cedarville Raceway is ending it season on Saturday. Racing begins at 6 p.m. and there will be Pro Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Sport Mods.
• This weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, the Reno SCCA is hosting rounds 11 and 12 of its Solo, Autocross series. Day starts around 7:30 in the morning at the Regional Public Safety Training Center.
PRACTICE & RACING (MOTOCOSS):
• Two local motocross tracks will be in action this weekend. On Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. Reno-Fernley Raceway has motocross practice.
- Sunday, starting at 9 a.m., the Enticknap Fall Camp will be there. Good training and all skill levels are welcome.
• Over the hill REP Racing MX will have a busy weekend. PCM has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
- Riverfront has night practice from 5 until 10 p.m. on Thursday. Friday from 5 until 10 is race practice and Saturday is Round 4 of the Saturday Night series.
- Closer to home the Sandbox MX is open this weekend Saturday, from 8 until 1 p.m., is a DCMX Private Ride Day then Sunday from 9 a.m. until 2 is open practice.
• Sunday Argyll MX hosts the final round of this year’s P.R.O. Motocross Summer Sundayz series. The awards banquet is slated for October 16.
• This weekend its Championship time for the E-Street SXS series. Racing happens both Saturday and Sunday.
• MMX Racing on Saturday has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. using the Main, Sand and Kids tracks. Hours on Sunday are 9 until 3 p.m. and the Vintage track is added to the mix.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• NASCAR is racing at Kansas Speedway this weekend. Once again every event is behind a pay wall. However one can see highlights of each race later on www.youtube.com.
• Thursday, starting at 5 a.m., Apple TV has Formula 1 practice #1 an #1 from Azerbaijan.
That evening, starting at 8:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has Speed then at 9 a.m. Kevin Haervick’s Happy Hour.
• Friday at 1:10 a.m. AppleTV has Formula 1 practice #3 then at 4:25 qualifying.
• Saturday is when the Formula 1 race from Azerbaijan will be broadcast as Sunday is a special day for that country. AppleTV will show the race starting at 2:50 a.m.
Peacock at 9 a.m. has Race Day Live. Then at 4 p.m. they broadcast Super Motocross Championship Playoff Final. Probably one the longest tracks the racers have even seen.
• Sunday Fox Sports 1 has the finals from the NHRA Nationals At The Rock Nitrofest. It actually stated on Friday when there was a meet and greet with the drivers in downtown Rockingham, North Carolina.
It’s another action packed weekend for car lovers, racers and fans. Be sure to get out and attend of one these events as you’ll meet some great people.

• Sadly Club Rowdy had to cancel its three-day drifting event at the Reno-Fernley Raceway. They didn’t get enough people registered. All those that have registered will get a refund.
• Legacy Racing Association announced they canceled the Gold Rush, Virginia City to Tonopah off road race. Circumstances just wouldn’t allow it.
• For those racing in the Battle Born MX series now is the time to pre-register. The event happens on October 3 and 4 in Marysville.
• Davey’s American Racing can be found on Face Book.
He also posts schedules for various tracks and there related subjects.
