RACING PREVIEW: MAY 18 TO 21

Racing Preview for this weekend has a varied menu for those wanting to watch or see motorsports.

A week before Memorial Day weekend and some things are ramping up while others are quiet this weekend. But there is something for about any race fan.

One track in our area is hosting three days of action this weekend. Top Gun Raceway kicks the weekend off with $5 Fridays, from 6 p.m. until 10 people can test and tune their cars on the dragstrip.

Then starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday there are two days of drag racing.

Saturday has Round 4 of the Summit ET and Junior Dragster series and ends with a Ford Invitational. Round 5 of both series are on Sunday that ends with the second round of the ET Challenge.

Over in Quincy, California the American Valley Speedway is hosting another of its points races beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Hot August Nights

For Hot August or vintage car fans, there is a Spring Fever Revival in downtown Reno on Saturday and Sunday. Should be great weather to see the cars.

Bikers Against Child Abuse.

There is a special event happening on Saturday, it’s the annual 100-mile ride by the Bikers Against Child Abuse. It starts at 10 a.m. at the Sun Valley Blue Hall then loops out to Fallon and ends in Sparks.

Hangtown Nationals

The biggest event is over the hill at the Hangtown Nationals at Prairie City on Saturday. It starts the Pro Motocross Outdoor series and is a full day of racing. Gates open at 7 a.m. and the pro motos begin at 1 p.m. after the 250cc sighting lap.

Then on Sunday, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at E Street MX Marysville, ANSR Racing, with Nick Wey are not only going to be there but the first 100 riders get free admission.

For most of this week there has been practice sessions at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as drivers and teams get ready for this weekend. Further south, in Charlotte, North Carolina things are getting prepared for two weekends NASCAR racing.

While Daytona Beach might be the spiritual home of NASCAR it’s real home is in the Charlotte area where most of the teams are based.

On Thursday the TV pickings are slim but at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 will air NASCAR Race Hub.

Friday starts at 10 a.m. as Fox sports has NASCAR practice and qualifying from Charlotte ending with the 5 p.m. start to the Camping World Truck race.

Over at Fans Choice TV they will stream the 7th annual “Night Before the Mile,” starting at 6 p.m. from Lodi, California.

ABC gets Saturday going at 1 p.m. as the first day of qualifying for the Indy 500 starts.

At that same time, 1 p.m., things get rolling over at the Hangtown Nationals. Once again the motos are split between two networks with MAVTV showing the first ones then NBC Sports picks up the second motos.

NASCAR

Fox Sports, at 3 p.m., begins its coverage of the annual NASCAR All Star race. While there are no points on the line there are bragging rights and a whole pile of money to be won.

Earlier in the week, which apparently won’t be shown, the pit crews have a competition inside a downtown arena.

Over in the Internet, at www.fanschoice.tv, there will be at X-Factor Pro ATV event shown at 10 a.m. then at 2 p.m. the American Flat Track race from the Sacramento Miles will be aired. After that, starting at 3:30 p.m. three short tracks will have their races aired.

NHRA

NHRA will be racing this weekend at Topeka, Kansas.

On Sunday, starting at 11 a.m. on Fox Sports 1 the NHRA event from Topeka, Kansas will be shown. Then, starting at 1 p.m the second day of qualifying for the Indy 500 will be on ABC.

That’s it for this week and next week there will be even more racing, both here as well as on TV and the Internet. Memorial Day weekend is the biggest racing weekend of the year.
