  • WILDFIRE 100 OPENS MRANN’S 2018 SEASON

    NIGHTINGALE, NV (Feb. 18) – The Wildfire 100 opened the 2018 racing season for those that compete in the MRANN (Motorcycle Racing Association of Northern Nevada) series. Since its held on President’s Day weekend the event also turns into a huge campout for many of the competitors and their families. Like all MRANN races it’s a two-day event and on Sunday the big bikes get their turn. This time the Trail Blazers club hosted the race and used two different courses for both loops. The first local event is actually pretty low key on Sunday when Reno Coffee and Cars has another get together by the Starbucks at 1610 Robb Drive.     SPANISH SPRINGS, NV (Feb. 10) – Battle Born MX held its fall series awards banquet and ceremony this weekend. It was an almost standing room only crowd that attended the function. Dana Losey was the MC for the event and his sister-in-law Shami Potratz acted as the presenter. When people entered the hall and signed in to their left were several tables full of things for raffle prizes as well as some gifts for the award winners. Those familiar with racing in this area, especially from the paved oval days, know the last name Shelton because Robby and his late father Tom raced there for many years.     SPARKS (Jan. 27) – The awards banquet for theReno chapter OTHG (Over The Hill Gang) was at Pinocchios in Sparks. There the club honored their top 20, handed out special awards and mark a change of the club’s president. After a nice buffet dinner the ceremony began hosted by outgoing president Lane Kolbet. First up were three special awards. The first went to Fred Enos for this tireless work driving the water truck during the races at Fernley.     CARSON CITY (Jan. 8) – MarTec Engineering is another small shop in our region that came about when the owner followed his passion. When asked why he started the business owner Nick Maher said, “I guess the term ‘scratching your own itch,’ is how I’d describe it. When I was about 15 I got into off road trucks and stuff like that. Once I had a decent job around age of 20 I started building my own truck.” He wanted to install a roll cage, different motor and other things as well but there wasn’t the budget to buy parts.
