    Another great weekend of racing is here. Once again Racing Preview has something for almost every type of racing fan, from live events to attend to racing on TV and streamed on the Internet. If the weather doesn’t throw a spanner in the works the Leroy Kay Memorial Race at American Valley Speedway is this Friday and Saturday.   • VCGP: HEATHER PICKERING MAKES HISTORY

    Although shorter the second day of this year’s VCGP was historic.   VIRGINIA CITY (April 30) – The annual Virginia City Grand Prix is divided into separate parts depending on which class a person races in. On the second day Novice, Women, Bombers and Vintage bikes take their turn on the course. In order to make it a bit easier on those racing Vintage motorcycles they run a course that is just over 10-miles in length.   • VCGP: TREMAINE TOPS PRO DAY

    Saturday is when the pros, experts and amateurs race in the Comstock Classic. VIRGINIA CITY (April 29) – The Virginia City Grand Prix (VCGP) has been held 46 out of last 47 years. Known for being a huge challenge the event brings riders from across the west to the Comstock. This year, due to the storms in winter, the course was rougher than usual.     This week’s Racing Preview gets off to a slow start then snowballs into an action packed weekend, both live as well as on TV and the Internet. The biggest event in our area is the annual Virginia City Grand Prix, a two-day event that challenges riders from all across the west.   • OLD TIMER NATIONALS ROCK THE SANDBOX

    The first of two major motocross events visited the Sandbox this weekend for two days of great racing. There is a photo gallery at the end of this article.   FERNLEY (April 23) – The Old Timers Nationals visited the Fernley-Wadsworth Lion’s Motocross Track this weekend. Hosting the event at the Sandbox, as many call it, was the local chapter of the Old Timers Motorcycle Club. This event draws riders from the western states as well as Canada.     The second race at Rattlesnake was quite an exciting night for all, especially for some drivers. Most of the photographs are at the end of the article after the results. FALLON (April 15) – Rattlesnake Raceway hosted its traditional Easter Saturday races this weekend. The pits were packed with around 87 cars including Sprints, Dwarf Cars and the Nevada Pro Stock Association. Before racing started the Pro Stock field made its way to the front straight.     Due to the Easter weekend this Racing Preview is a bit on the thin side although there are some live events to be seen on TV, Internet and locally. The big race in our area is the Sabio Gonzalez Memorial Race at Rattlesnake Raceway, located just east of downtown Fallon. The event honors long time race supporter and the father of the Gonzalez brothers.   • MRANN: HONEA WINS DIAMOND BACK H.S.

    SAGE, CALIFORNIA (April 9) – MRANN’s fourth round of their season was the 2017 Diamond Back Hare Scrambles. Staged by the Lassen M/C it was the 50th anniversary of the event that began in 1967 as an enduro race. The event was run at the Ft. Sage OHV area east of Doyle, California. It’s up against a mountain range and the final drop down to the pits is called “The Widowmaker.” Starting at 4,000 feet this very steep drop is one that even the fastest rider rode with care.     Racing preview for this week has three two-day events in our region plus events across the country and overseas. Just about any race fan can find something they will like. First and foremost, Lovelock Speedway has canceled its opening night schedule for this Saturday. The reason is that Winnemucca Regional Raceway is starting their season with a double header. The events sponsor Motel T Hotel and Casino even has rates for those going out there. Gates open at 10 a.m. with racing beginning at noon Saturday and Sunday.     A little late getting this one out but here it is. Next time should be better. FALLON (April 1) – Rattlesnake Raceway began it season Saturday. The pits were full of cars, 7 classes, as well as Outlaw Karts so it was going to be a long night. Headlining the night was the Nevada Pro Stock Association opening their traveling series as well.     As the weather improves more tracks and series are starting and here’s the latest one. STEAD (April 2) – Desert Park Raceway echoed with the sounds of racing this weekend as the Northern Nevada Kart Club started its 2017 season. Despite the threat of possible rain the weather was great. Just in case the club sped up the schedule so everyone was finished with their racing by early afternoon.   • ARENACROSS: AMATEUR DAY AT LEC

    RENO (March 26) – Arenacross is divided in two; the Pros race on Saturday or Friday if it’s a two-day show. But at every stop Sunday is reserved for amateurs and they run after the course has been altered for safety. Sunday at the Livestock Events Center started early as each rider either qualifies in heat races for their main event or has to accomplish this in an LCQ. Like in years past there was a large group of riders so to get them all in 27 short races were scheduled although two were combined to make it 25 events.

  • ARENACROSS ROCKs LIVESTOCK EVENTS CENTER

    Indoor motocross returns after several years and puts on three days of racing. RENO (March 24/25) – After an absence of three years the Amsoil Arenacross returned to the Reno Livestock Center this weekend. Even after all this time this is the largest venue on the circuit as they mainly race in Hockey size arenas. The major class, the AX 250 had a tight points race going into the two-day show with Jace Owen and Gavin Faith being tied with the advantage going to the latter. Both shows were going to slightly shake up the run for the chanpionship .
