  • 95A SPEEDWAY: DRY SLICK, RAIN AND HARD RACING

    This weekend Mother Nature went crazy but the track overcame the challenge and had a great afternoon of racing. FERNLEY (April 9) – 95A Speedway’s second race of the season was quite a mix. First it was dry slick, despite the best efforts of the track crew, then after an one hour hold for rain, the track came in for the IMCA feature. After winning that feature, once it got restarted, Mike White said, “Second in a row for IMCA. The rain was what I needed.” Have to thank Megan, my family and everybody that helps me out on this

  • RACING PREVIEW: APRIL 7 TO 10

    This week there is racing live, on TV and the Internet. Racing preview for this week has a mix of events for both the two-wheel and oval track fans. Once again there will be no practice at the Livfast Exit 28 motocross track as they are preparing for their next race. Fernley 95A Speedway will host its second race of the season Saturday with a 2 p.m. start time. All the car classes will be in action on the oval. Motocross racers competing in the 775 Spring Classic Series will head for Winnemucca for the third round of their series.

  • SANDBOX STIRRED UP BY MOTOCROSS

    Beautiful weather set the stage for a great day of motocross racing this weekend. The Sandbox, or Fernley Lion’s Motocross track, was the scene of the second 775 Spring Classic motocross series. This time the Over The Hill Gang staged the event. Layne Kolbet, OTHG president said they had 189 riders sign up for practice on Saturday so attendance was probably over 200. On Sunday however there were at least a 100 more on hand to race bringing the total closer to 300. For one aspiring pro that’s chasing his dream Sunday was a perfect day as he swept three

  • RACING PREVIEW: MARCH 31-APRIL 3

    Finally racing has begun in earnest here in this area as the Speed Merchants entertain their fans. Racing preview for this week is pretty full now that the Easter Holiday is behind us. Series, both here nationally and internationally, will be at full throttle. Locally the oval track season is progressing as Rattlesnake Raceway opens its 2016 season Saturday. Racing, which includes the cars and karts begins at 6 p.m. and round out the field will be the first round of the new series for the Nevada Pro Stock Association as these cars mark their return to the track.     A little slow this week with the holiday but its another lull before the storm of action. Racing preview this week is a bit slim as the Easter holiday is upon us. Most national and international series are taking a holiday until things get going with a bang next week. However there are a few things happening in our region and over the hill.   • LIVFAST EXIT 28 STARTS MX775 SEASON

    Finally the long awaited spring motocross season has started. Livfast Exit 28 began the MX775 Spring Classic motocross season. Strong winds and cool temperatures couldn’t keep a large group of racers away as they were ready to rip. Several teams were also present including RMS, Moto Source, Design Tech 1 and Testa Motorsports that brought between 30 to 40 riders. The second 250/450 Pro and Intermediate moto had a rider from each division going for the victory.     One more awards banquet before racing begins in this area. RENO (Feb. 6) – The local Over The Hill Gang chapter held its annual banquet at “Men Wielding Fire,” on Saturday. It was a festive night of food, drink, humor and reflection on the season past as well as a look into the future. And there was a great selection of free prize drawings for club members.
