THIS WEEK’S RACING PREVIEW ISN’T AS FRANTIC AS THE LAST ONE. Although there is less racing going on in our region this weekend there are still some things for fans so see and attend. Rattlesnake Raceway, east of downtown Fallon, has another points race Saturday for the cars but this time there will be Mud Drags to round out the program. As usual it’s a 6 p.m. start to the action. On Sunday the Northern Nevada Kart Club hosts its next points race at Desert Park Raceway. The track is located about a quarter mile past the end

This week’s racing has a mix of two- and four-wheel action in our region. The Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track will be in action as MRANN ends its spring desert-racing season. It’s the annual Corey Herring Memorial race but this time in a short track configuration. On Saturday, from 8 to 10 a.m. the big bikes can practice then at 10:30 a.m. the Pee Wee riders take center stage. They are followed by the Mini Bike race and later the Women’s, Vintage and Bomber race. On Sunday each of the big bike classes get their own separate race on the

OCTANE FEST COMES TO FALLON

Octane Fest brings color and speed to Fallon. The Octane Fest rolls into Fallon this weekend for three days and evenings of action packed motorsports. In addition two regional tracks will also be staging their own races. On Friday evening at 7 p.m. the Lovelock Speedway hosts another points race while, up at Susanville, at that same time Diamond Mountain Speedway, located at the fairgrounds, will also be in action. WHAT’S RACING FOR – JUNE 4-7

What’s racing this weekend is packed days of motorsport action that has something for almost anybody. If the weather holds local race fans are in for a treat. On Friday, starting at 7 p.m., Lovelock Speedway has a make up race for the one rained out in May. Top Gun Raceway, located south of Fallon, hosts another $5 Friday where people can test and tune their cars on the drag strip. This weekend’s racing will be a little less frantic that it was on Memorial Day Sunday. But there still is a pretty good variety for fans to choose from. This afternoon there is a special event for youngsters. The AC/DC Bike Camp has demonstration rides at the Double Diamond Athletic Club. The goal is to sign up young riders for their Electric Trials Bike Lessons and it’s open to any one 6 years and older that can ride a bike. THIS WEEK’S RACING – MAY 21-24

This week’s racing has something for just about any type of racing fan. The biggest event in our area this weekend is the second round of the Over The Hill Gang Nationals hosted by the Reno chapter. Two days of racing, starting around 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, at the Fernley Lions Motocross or the Sandbox as it’s also known. And there will be the traditional BBQ after the races on Saturday. RACING PREVIEW FOR THIS WEEK BOTH LIVE AND ON TELEVISION This weeks’ racing preview highlights the only two area tracks that in action this weekend. Things are a bit calmer after last week when three regional tracks were in action. MOTORSPORT PREVIEW – MARCH 19-22

With the Sandbox Grand Prix coming up motorcycle riders have a chance to tune up for this fun race at the end of the month. This Saturday and Sunday the Old Timers Motorcycle Club is hosting practice sessions, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., at the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track. The same venue the Sandbox will be held at on March 28/29. Local Stock Car and Outlaw Kart drivers will want to take advantage of the Playday Rattlesnake Raceway is hosting on Saturday. Once again television is ripe with various races and so is the Internet. And locally the second race of the year happens this weekend. This weekend MRANN journeys toward Lovelock but the race area is actually about 20-miles along a good dirt road to a dry lakebed west of Toulon. It’s the Wide Open 120 held at Blue Wing Flat, Nevada. It’s a big week for racing on TV as three major touring series begin their year while another stages the second round of its season. So TV will be crammed with action this weekend. Last Sunday was qualifying for the Great American Race, the 57th running of the Daytona 500 but only the front row was set. On Thursday the rest of the 43 grid spots will be filled with the two Budweiser Dual 150 races. As we head into spring racing is heating up as various series roar into their 2015 campaigns. Just a quick reminder to those that want to race in this year’s Virginia City Grand Prix, Monday, February 9 is the earliest date to postmark your entries. Once again MAVTV does the lion’s share of bringing racing to the viewing public and this week they have something very special. Things start Thursday noon with the Dirty 30 show about midget and sprint car racing from Perris Auto Speedway in Southern California. This is followed at 1:30 p.m. with the American Sprint Boat Series. Then at 5:30 p.m. they continue with the IHRA Nitro Jam drag race series followed at 8 p.m. with Speed Sport News.
