Racing Preview for this week has four events in our area and two of them are very different from the usual fare. Friday begins at Top Gun Raceway, located south of Fallon, with $5 Friday, from 6 p.m. until midnight, where people can test and tune their cars on the dragstrip. Then on Saturday, starting at 9:30 a.m. the facility has ET round 11, Junior Dragsters round 9 and Street Legal drags. Closer to home at the Wild West Motorsports Park here is a new event combining VORRA and NorCal Rock Racing. Things really get going Saturday morning as racing

IRONMAN CHALLENG RECAP: PART 2

Finally the marathon was ending at the fifth track the tour visited. The Ironman Challenge, after visiting four different tracks over an eight-day period headed for its final stop; Rattlesnake Raceway outside of Fallon, Nevada. While the IMCA ranks were thinned the Hobby Stock division stayed pretty stout. For Cory Sample, the IMCA points leader both races might accomplish a milestone he wanted. Leaving 95A Speedway he has 98 victories under his belt and wanted the illusive 100th. In Sunday’s main event it appeared that Robert Miller might play the role of spoiler after leading much of the race.

IRONMAN CHALLENGE RECAP: PART 1

The Ironman Challenge recap is divided and this part covers the first four venues the tour visited. This year was the first Evenson Law Office Ironman Challenge for Hobby Stocks and IMCA Modifieds. It’s a format that favors those taking the long view as there are 10 races over a 10-day period at five different venues. According to Coordinator Steve Evenson getting tracks to host two-day events during the week was a challenge. But they did and the event started June 25th. RACING PREVIEW: JULY 7 TO 10

Racing preview for this week has an unusual weekend locally but nationally and internationally there is a whole lot going on for racing fans. In our immediate region there will be no racing. However on Friday, sorry don’t know the time, Winnemucca Regional Raceway will have a full schedule of racing. Then on Saturday, starting at 7 p.m. Hawthorne Speedway is going to have racing. For the two-wheel crowd Livfast Exit 28 motocross track will have practice sessions from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Ironman Challenge ended here after a marathon of short track racing. Fallon (July 4) – The Ironman Challenge finished here on the track’s traditional 4th of July race. After 10-days of racing the surviving IMCA teams as well as Hobby Stock racers and two supporting classes were set to go. Only two rounds left when the Ironman Challenge series pulled into Rattlesnake Raceway outside of Fallon. Fallon (July 3) – The Evenson Law Office Ironman Challenge pulled into its final stop on this Sunday. On the card were the IMCA, Hobby Stocks and the Pro 4’s or Mini Mods as they have been known. Ironman Challenge was a series that moved through several tracks and tested driver and crew’s skill and endurance. Evenson Law Office Ironman Challenge for IMCA Mdifieds and Hobby Stocks, it’s full title, is a series of 10-races at five tracks in a 10-day period of time ending on July 4th. STEAD (June (26) – Desert Park Raceway was a busy place this Sunday. Despite the heat a good number of racers showed up to compete in the fourth round of this year’s Northern Nevada Kart Club’s series. “We didn’t have a very good second heat so I knew I had to get him (Mike Faker) on the start or had to pass him somewhere he’s weak at,” Jeremy Kay said after winning the 125 Stock Moto main.

COREY HERRING MEMORIAL AT HONEY LAKE

After being dark for several years a popular motocross park reopens with a special race. MILFORD, CALIF. (June 19) – MRANN (Motorcycle Racing Association of Northern Nevada) made its return to the newly reopened Honey Lake MX Park this weekend. It was the annual Corey Herring Memorial “Go Big or Go Home!” race. The event honors the young rider lost eight years ago and helps fund scholarships created in his name. PYLON RACING SEMINAR: A LICENSE TO LEARN

Once again Stead Airport was alive with the sounds of racing aircraft but this time the pilots were coming to be schooled in the fine art of air racing. STEAD (June 18) – The Pylon Racing Seminar made its annual visit to the airport here. Any pilot that wants to compete at the air races, is changing classes or hasn’t raced in a while has to go through this course. Veterans also attend as it’s a way to get more time on the course. Motorsport Preview for this week has a whole lot of motorcycle action, some oval track racing, national as well as international events. For motocross riders that want some practice Livfast Exit 28 MX track will host practice sessions from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. But the big event is south of here as the annual Mammoth Motocross begins on Friday and runs through Sunday, June 26. All age groups are covered and it draws riders from all over. OCTANE FEST: TOP GUN AND FAIRGROUND PHOTOS

Due to the length of the article I am putting these photos in a gallery. Octane Fest in Fallon is a celebration of speed and color. It is held in three different venues and two of the are Top Gun Raceway, located south of the town, as well as the Churchill County Fairgrounds, located near downtown. In the event article I missed who won the Top Comp division at the drag strip. Well got word too late to include it that the two drivers that would have been in the final decided to skip that run due to the weather.

OCTANE FEST: FALLON CELEBRATES MOTORSPORTS

Every June people flock to one of Nevada’s towns to celebrate several kinds of motorsports. FALLON (June 11,12) – Octane Fest is an annual celebration of horsepower, speed and color put on in this Nevada town. Rattlesnake Speedway, Top Gun Raceway and the Churchill County Fairground host many events during the three days and nights the festival runs.
