It’s the lull before the gathering storm as major series are getting ready to launch their series. Racing Preview for this week again is a bit slim as most things are TV but it’s the lull before the storm. This area’s 2016 season will start four weekends from now. Locally Livfast Exit 28 will again be open for practice sessions from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. This of course depends on the weather. First Look at the 2016 racing season has something for almost any race fan. The upcoming season is like looking at a puzzle where most of the pieces are already in place. But there are a few more to be added including three events, two of which are new. Racing preview this week has two motocross events listed as well as where to find the updates on this year’s Dakar Rally. While there is less than a month from the start of racing in our area there are two motocross races in California that area riders will be traveling to. Air Race Update with the CEO shows the event is moving forward. On New Year’s Eve day several people gathered in the office of the Reno Air Race Association for some business. It was to draw a lucky person’s name from a raffle for a car. Prior to that we had a chance to talk with Micheal Crowell, the new CEO of RARA. RACING PREVIEW: DEC. 31 TO JAN. 4

Racing Preview for this week is the slimmest yet but thing are about to change. Because after this weekend new seasons start to fire up. Locally Livfast Exit 28 will host practice sessions from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For those competing in the Bishop MX winter series there will be practice at the Tri-County Fairgrounds, gates open at 9 a.m. Most of the action will be on the TV this week. On Thursday starting at 2 p.m. CBS Sports will rebroadcast its two-hour program on this year’s Baja 1000. Over on MAVTV things begin at noon

Season Review of the 2015 year in racing for this region. With the year ending it’s time to take a look at this past season and set the stage for what is to come in the New Year. As usual the desert racers in MRANN raised the curtain for racing in this region. It was the Dead Horse event that’s staged north of the Nightingale Exit on I-80. Season’s greetings from all of us to our readers. This week is a bit of a departure from the norm with this site. After going hard at it for almost 18 months thought I’d step back for this week. Over the past months my partner and I have worked at getting the site up, running and keeping it up to date. Not an easy task I can assure you but the feedback has been positive and that alone is gratifying. While there might not be racing in our immediate area, there is still some going on. And a couple of local shops are celebrating the holiday. Austin Serpa had a championship year this season as he raced his KTM in area desert races. Winning races is the goal of any racer and while most never accomplish this they have fun trying. However some do win titles and earning an overall championship in their rookie year is an even greater accomplishment. And that’s exactly what one 16-year-old high school racer did this past season. MRANN, like most racing groups, has an annual banquet to mark the end of one season and honor those that have competed as well as helped the season. SPARKS (Dec. 5) – Those riders that compete in the MRANN (Motorcycle Racing Association of Northern Nevada) desert racing series assembled at the Sparks Nugget to celebrate the past season and honor their champions and top finishers.
