This week there is a traditional hybrid race featuring a cross between motocross and desert racing. It’s the 4th Annual Sandbox Grand Prix staged at the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track. Saturday’s action begins at 12:30 a.m. with a race combining Women, 65cc and 100cc plus Vintage and Bomber bikes. Then the Pee Wees take to the track followed at 2:30 p.m. with a 90-minute team race for the Men, Women and Bombers. RENO (March 22) – Each spring Al Lockett hosts a show that combines almost everything one that loves the outdoors could ask for. Everything from boats, landscaping, recreation and a whole lot more. But part of the show is devoted to both off-road and motorsports, which was a bit light this time around. MOTORSPORT PREVIEW – MARCH 19-22

With the Sandbox Grand Prix coming up motorcycle riders have a chance to tune up for this fun race at the end of the month. This Saturday and Sunday the Old Timers Motorcycle Club is hosting practice sessions, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., at the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track. Exit 28 – (March 15) A good field of riders showed up at the LivFast Exit 28 motocross track to compete in the second round of the Spring into Action series. Although the winds were up the racing was as hot and hard as ever. And one veteran showed up to help support the series. BREAKING NEWS – DAYTONA 200 TO BE BROADCAST

Now that the season’s first motocross race is in the books riders are looking forward to the second round at the Livfast Exit 28 track, located east of Sparks. There will be practice from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday then short sessions Sunday morning with a 9 a.m. start to the first motos. The track is being worked on and watered all this week so the dirt should be great. Fernley (March 8) — Motocross is back! Last fall there was only one race after the plug was pulled on the fall series. Over the winter local Over the Hill Gang members rolled up their sleeves, secured use of the Fernley Lion’s Motocross track and started helping the Old Timers chapter come back to life. Now both clubs along with Tim O’Brien at the Livfast Exit 28 track have breathed life back into regional racing with the first event of a shortened spring season being staged this weekend. This weekend motocross returns to our area. Over the winter two clubs and a track combined forces to ensure it would continue to be part of this area. The first race is this Sunday’s staged by the local Over The Hill Gang chapter with a 9 a.m. launch to the first moto. There will be a practice session Saturday for riders to shake the cobwebs off and get back into their groove. Blue Wing Flag (March 1) – MRANN journeyed about 25 miles west of Toulon beside a not too dry lake for it’s second race of the season. The Wide Open 120 was the combined effort by the Cheaters and Rimbenders Motorcycle Clubs. Once again television is ripe with various races and so is the Internet. And locally the second race of the year happens this weekend. This weekend MRANN journeys toward Lovelock but the race area is actually about 20-miles along a good dirt road to a dry lakebed west of Toulon. It’s the Wide Open 120 held at Blue Wing Flat, Nevada. SPRING MOTOCROSS RACING IS ON

Last fall SMRA pulled the plug on its fall motocross season. The Over The Hill Gang then took up the cause, thought they had a three-race series but that turned into a one-off race at Fernley. Over the winter the Gang has been working and is joined by the Old Timer’s Chapter so racing will return. Over the winter Gang president Layne Kolbet was able to secure use of the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track, otherwise known as the “Sandbox.” And the club also helped the Lions when they were in need. Sparks (Feb. 21) – Burg’s Victorian Bar was jumping Saturday night as Reno’s chapter of the Over The Hill Gang met to celebrate last season, honor its champions and announce plans for this coming season. After watching the latest Supercross round everyone had a nice dinner than settled down for the awards. Once special award is named for the late Harry Trainor, who was respected by his peers and always helped the club. It’s a big week for racing on TV as three major touring series begin their year while another stages the second round of its season. So TV will be crammed with action this weekend. DEAD HORSE STARTS AREA RACING

Nightingale ( Feb. 15) – The Trail Blazers motorcycle club hosted the first race in our region for 2015. It traditionally not only opens racing in our region but starts MRANN’s season as well.
