  • THIS WEEKS RACING PREVIEW

    This week’s racing has a mix of two- and four-wheel action in our region. The Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track will be in action as MRANN ends its spring desert-racing season. It’s the annual Corey Herring Memorial race but this time in a short track configuration.   On Saturday, from 8 to 10 a.m. the big bikes can practice then at 10:30 a.m. the Pee Wee riders take center stage. They are followed by the Mini Bike race and later the Women’s, Vintage and Bomber race. On Sunday each of the big bike classes get their own separate race on the

  • WHAT’S RACING FOR – JUNE 4-7

    What’s racing this weekend is packed days of motorsport action that has something for almost anybody. If the weather holds local race fans are in for a treat. On Friday, starting at 7 p.m., Lovelock Speedway has a make up race for the one rained out in May. Top Gun Raceway, located south of Fallon, hosts another $5 Friday where people can test and tune their cars on the drag strip.   • 95A SPEEDWAY – OLSCHOWKA WINS

    At 95A Speedway track honors veterans that have given the ultimate sacrifice. Then the racing program began for the night. FERNLEY (May 23) – The 95A Speedway began Saturday evenings show with race cars parked on the front straight to honor veterans that either gave their lives for our country or have passed on. Then the cars did a couple of parade laps to put an exclamation point on the ceremony.   After the IMCA feature ended, winner Jeff Olschowka said, ” The race was awesome man, I had no idea where anybody was at as I was just cruisin’.

  • THIS WEEK’S RACING – MAY 21-24

    This week’s racing has something for just about any type of racing fan. The biggest event in our area this weekend is the second round of the Over The Hill Gang Nationals hosted by the Reno chapter. Two days of racing, starting around 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, at the Fernley Lions Motocross or the Sandbox as it’s also known. And there will be the traditional BBQ after the races on Saturday.       95A SPEEDWAY HAD A NIGHT OF HARD RACING AND A VERY CLOSE FINISH Fernley (May 9) – Spring weather set the stage for some intense competition and one surprise winner in the closest race of the night.       DWARF CARS REGIONAL HONORS FALLEN DRIVERS   FERNLEY (May 1-2) – 95A Speedway hosted the annual Western States Dwarf Car Regional this weekend. Once again the race honored the memory of Dave Richardson and Leroy Kay, who both perished in a wreck racing accident two years ago. The event is two evenings of hard racing and some strong emotions. In fact the Dwarf Car drivers, after Saturday’s meet-and-greet intermission, did a couple of four-wide laps to honor their fallen comrades.      RACING PREVIEW FOR THE WEEKEND This week has both oval and drag racing for area fans.   Things begin Friday as Fernley 95A Speedway hosts the 2nd annual Dave Richardson & Leroy Kay Memorial race. It’s a Western Dwarf Car regional. On both Friday and Saturday qualifying begins at 5 p.m. with racing starting at 6 p.m. These little speedsters usually put on quite a show.   • 95A SPEEDWAY HOSTS BCRA MIDGETS

    95A SPEEDWAY – COOL NIGHT, HOT RACING FERNLEY (April 24) – The Fernley 95A Speedway dodged a bullet as a passing storm spared the oval. So, despite the cool temperatures, the track was able to welcome back the BCRA (Bay Cities Racing Association) Midgets after an absence of several years. “The car was awesome and it just got better and better.       MILLER TOPS IMCA AT 95A FERNLEY (April 11) – The speedway here hosted its second points race of the season.   • MILLER TOPS 95A SEASON OPENER

    Fernley (March 28) – The speedway here opened its season with an afternoon race this weekend. While some classes were down on cars the IMCA group fielded 22 cars for this heat races and main events. “The race was great even though the track was dusty.     This week there is a traditional hybrid race featuring a cross between motocross and desert racing. It’s the 4th Annual Sandbox Grand Prix staged at the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track.   Saturday’s action begins at 12:30 a.m. with a race combining Women, 65cc and 100cc plus Vintage and Bomber bikes. Then the Pee Wees take to the track followed at 2:30 p.m. with a 90-minute team race for the Men, Women and Bombers.
