  • 4TH ANNUAL SANDBOX GRAND PRIX

Fernley (March 29) — Four years ago MRANN and the local OTHG combined forces for the initial Sandbox Grand Prix. It’s a day full of motocross action on an 2.5 mile long course that ends with a team race. There are no points, money only bragging rights and a trophy. And its become one of the most anticipated fun events of the year. And once again the venue was the Sandbox or the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track. Teams are made up from two to four riders and they pick some crazy names. The starting riders get a scrunchee they wear

  • MX ROCKS THE SANDBOX

Fernley (March 8) — Motocross is back! Last fall there was only one race after the plug was pulled on the fall series. Over the winter local Over the Hill Gang members rolled up their sleeves, secured use of the Fernley Lion’s Motocross track and started helping the Old Timers chapter come back to life. Now both clubs along with Tim O’Brien at the Livfast Exit 28 track have breathed life back into regional racing with the first event of a shortened spring season being staged this weekend. This time it was the OTHG’s turn as they staged a two-day

Last fall SMRA pulled the plug on its fall motocross season. The Over The Hill Gang then took up the cause, thought they had a three-race series but that turned into a one-off race at Fernley. Over the winter the Gang has been working and is joined by the Old Timer’s Chapter so racing will return. • DIRT TRICKS PLANS FOR GROWTH

MINDEN, NV (Feb. 6)– Dirt Tricks is like many specialty shops and businesses that supply or build quality parts for racers. And the Minden based company’s forte is manufacturing top of the line, virtually indestructible sprockets for motorcycles. A sprocket is a critical component that connects the chain to the wheel, as both are the driveline. And there is another smaller companion sprocket at the motor. “The front sprocket can vary from 12 to 15 teeth on most dirt bikes and the rear sprocket, on the wheel, varies from 45 to 53 teeth,” said Greg Burns, who owns Dirt Tricks.

  • PROMOTOR CANCELS 2014 ARENOCROSS

    Arenacross Reno

In the spring of 2013 the Amsoil Arenacross didn’t have Reno on its schedule as the series pulled back to the eastern part of the country. In fact Denver was the furthest west it came that year.   Seeing an opportunity promoter Robert Hansen decided the time was right to breath new life into his ArenOcross event that he created over 20-years ago. It was the first indoor motocross event at the Livestock Events Center. Eventually the ArenOcross event was absorbed into the Arenacross series and moved from its traditional November date to February. Bringing his event back to life,
