    RACING PREVIEW FOR THIS WEEK BOTH LIVE AND ON TELEVISION This weeks’ racing preview highlights the only two area tracks that in action this weekend. Things are a bit calmer after last week when three regional tracks were in action.   • RACING PREVIEW – APRIL 30-MAY 2

     RACING PREVIEW FOR THE WEEKEND This week has both oval and drag racing for area fans.   Things begin Friday as Fernley 95A Speedway hosts the 2nd annual Dave Richardson & Leroy Kay Memorial race. It’s a Western Dwarf Car regional. On both Friday and Saturday qualifying begins at 5 p.m. with racing starting at 6 p.m. These little speedsters usually put on quite a show. Further east on Friday, starting at 7 p.m., Lovelock Speedway starts its 2015 season. Most of their events this season will be on Friday evenings. Over in Fallon the Top Gun Speedway hosts two

  • RACING PREVIEW – APRIL 9-12

    After the Easter break racing resumes here and all over the world. Locally action begins at the Fernley 95A Speedway around 2 p.m. when Fernley 95A Speedway hosts its second points race of the year.   To the east Lovelock Speedway is helping the town’s volunteer Fire Department with a car wash that runs from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. MRANN hosts a weekend of racing northeast of Doyle, California as the Lassen Motorcycle Clubs stages the Diamond Back Hare Scrambles.   Saturday’s action begins at 9:30 a.m. when the Pee Wee racers are flagged off.   • RACING PREVIEW – APRIL 2-5

        SLOW WEEKEND AHEAD FOR RACING FANS Easter weekend is traditionally a slow time in the racing world. All three top NASCAR series are off as is the NHRA and Indy Cars. And after winning last Saturday’s 450 Supercross main in St. Louis, Ryan Dungey also gets a week to rest before the final push to the finals in Las Vegas.   • RACING PREVIEW – MARCH 19-22

    This week there is a traditional hybrid race featuring a cross between motocross and desert racing. It’s the 4th Annual Sandbox Grand Prix staged at the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track.   Saturday’s action begins at 12:30 a.m. with a race combining Women, 65cc and 100cc plus Vintage and Bomber bikes. Then the Pee Wees take to the track followed at 2:30 p.m. with a 90-minute team race for the Men, Women and Bombers.   • MOTORSPORT PREVIEW – MARCH 19-22

    With the Sandbox Grand Prix coming up motorcycle riders have a chance to tune up for this fun race at the end of the month. This Saturday and Sunday the Old Timers Motorcycle Club is hosting practice sessions, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., at the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track.   The same venue the Sandbox will be held at on March 28/29. Local Stock Car and Outlaw Kart drivers will want to take advantage of the Playday Rattlesnake Raceway is hosting on Saturday.   • RACING PREVIEW – MARCH 5-8

    This weekend motocross returns to our area. Over the winter two clubs and a track combined forces to ensure it would continue to be part of this area. The first race is this Sunday’s staged by the local Over The Hill Gang chapter with a 9 a.m. launch to the first moto. There will be a practice session Saturday for riders to shake the cobwebs off and get back into their groove.   • MOTORSPORT PREVIEW – FEB. 26 – MAR. 1

    Once again television is ripe with various races and so is the Internet. And locally the second race of the year happens this weekend. This weekend MRANN journeys toward Lovelock but the race area is actually about 20-miles along a good dirt road to a dry lakebed west of Toulon.   It’s the Wide Open 120 held at Blue Wing Flat, Nevada.   • MOTORSPORT PREVIEW – FEB. 19-22

    It’s a big week for racing on TV as three major touring series begin their year while another stages the second round of its season. So TV will be crammed with action this weekend. Last Sunday was qualifying for the Great American Race, the 57th running of the Daytona 500 but only the front row was set.     As we head into spring racing is heating up as various series roar into their 2015 campaigns.     As we head into spring racing is gearing up for the season ahead and once again there is a variety to events to see on TV as well as an event relatively close to this area fans can go see live. First and foremost there has been a change at the annual Virginia City Grand Prix. Unlike in years past the pits have been moved south to the area south and east of the 4th Ward School on the south side of town. Things start Thursday noon with the Dirty 30 show about midget and sprint car racing from Perris Auto Speedway in Southern California.
