RACING PREVIEW: SEPT. 29 TO OCT. 2

It’s another full weekend of racing action for the motorsports fan.

Racing preview for this week has whole bunch of action, both in our region as well as nationally and overseas. Fall might be here but the series are going hot and heavy.

For the two-wheeled set, the former Dodge Amateur Nationals, now renamed the Fly Racing California Amateur State Championship Pro-Am starts Friday over in Prairie City.

Closer to home Livfast Exit 28 is closed this weekend to support the second round of the 775 Fall MX Classic. That event is in Winnemucca with practice from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and racing starts at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Winnemucca Raceway is ending its season with a two-day show Friday and Saturday. Racing begins at 7:30 p.m. each night and there is an added purse for Dwarf Cars.

And for those that still need a classic car fix well there is an event for you Saturday. The Hot August Nights Fall Frenzy will be held at Baldinis Casino from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Should be a great Show N’ Shine and the weather will be about perfect.

On Sunday, starting around 9 a.m. the Northern Nevada Kart Club hosts its final points race of the year at Desert Park Raceway. The track is located about a quarter mile past the pavement on Lemmon Drive.

Championships will be decided that afternoon then the club prepares for its regional event in mid October.

Over in TV Land things start Thursday at 6 p.m. with Australian V8 Supercars from Sandan then at 7 p.m. they have a World Challenge event.

Friday begins on NBC Sports with NASCAR practice and qualifying from the Monster Mile at Dover.

On the Internet www.fanschoice.tv has a series of support races from Atlanta with a 5 a.m. start time to the broadcast.

There is more action on Saturday starting at 7:30 a.m. with practice and qualifying from Dover. Then at 8 a.m. the IMSA Weather Tech Sports Cars begin their race, which will be covered on Fox Sports 1 and 2.

Then at noon the Xfinity series has their race at Dover while, at 5:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Camping World Trucks from Las Vegas. And at 11 p.m. NBC Sports has the Formula One race from Malaysia.

Sunday begins at 11 a.m. when NBC Sports has the NASCAR Sprint Cup race from the Monster Mile at Dover. At that same time Fox Sports 1 begins it’s coverage of the NHRA event from Maple Grove Speedway.

For the Formula One fans the race will be repeated on NBC Sports starting at 3:30 p.m.

Not to be left out CBS Sports begins Sunday at 10 a.m. with shows starting with the annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance followed by the Rolex Monterey Motor Sports Reunion. Starting at noon there is the Goodwood Festival of Speed followed by the Historic Monaco Grand Prix.

That’s it for this weekend’s racing preview, so be sure to try and attend an event live. There is nothing like experiencing live racing for the color, speed and excitement and it helps both local racers and tracks.
