RACING PREVIEW: MARCH 8 TO 11

RENO (March7) – This week’s Racing Preview has some special events, a special announcement as well as what racing is going on in our region and in TV Land.

Time Switch

Remember to set your clocks forward one hour Saturday night as we go into Daylight Savings Time.

First and foremost for anyone planning on going racing, to practice or watching events remember DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME BEGINS SATURDAY EVENING.

The Blue Ribbon Coalition is an umbrella group that works to keep access to public lands. On Saturday there is a fundraiser trail ride called Mild to Wild and to benefit this organization.

The rides begin at Our Park in Dayton and 9:30 a.m. Anyone interested in keep public lands open or racing on them might want to consider participating in this event.

This weekend marks the start of the Battle Born MX spring series. The Reno Over The Hill Gang chapter is hosting the event that takes place at the Fernley/Wadsworth Motocross Track, or the “Sand Box,” as it is usually called.

Practice on Saturday is from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and the gates open at 6 a.m. Sunday, practice at 8 a.m. and at 9 a.m. racing begins.

Over in Northern California weather is expected to be a factor this weekend. As a result the first round of the March Madness series has been moved to E Street MX Park.  There is a Saturday practice from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. then gates open Sunday at 7 a.m., practice at 9 with racing to follow.

As for the other tracks, Riverside and Prairie City it is advised that anyone interested in practice there call the hot line at, 775-265-7223 before packing up and heading to the track.

Now on to TV land.

Thursday is slim as usual but NBC Sports will air NASCAR America at 2 p.m. followed on Fox Sports 1 at 3 p.m. with NASCAR Race Hub.

There is also a special new series beginning Thursday on the History Channel. It’s Truck Night In America and one of the hosts is local racer Glen Plake.

Competitors, none of whom are professionals, will have their skills tested in this program. Times are 8:04 p.m. with a repeat at 11:04 on the History Channel.

This week NASCAR is continuing its western swing and the top two divisions race at Phoenix. It’s the final time this configuration for the track will be used.

When the series returns in the fall start and finish will be moved by the dog leg on what is now the back stretch and it will be a very different track.

Once again Fox Sports 1 shoulder’s most of the load for NASCAR.

Friday begins at 9:35 am. as the new work started with NASCAR Cup practice followed by Xfinity practice and ending at 3:15 with Cup qualifying.

Saturday is a busy day as Fox Sports 1 gets the day started at 9:05 with NASCAR Cup practice followed by Xfinity qualifying, then the final Cup practice and at 1 p.m. the Xfinity race.

At 4 p.m. the network kicks off Daytona Bike Week with the Monster Energy AMA Supercross event from the infield at the Daytona International Speedway.

Finally at that same time the Eleven Sports network airs the first stage of the World Rally Championship from Mexico.

ABC gets Sunday rolling with the season opening Indy Car event from St. Petersburg, Florida.

Then at 12:00 Fox broadcasts the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from Phoenix. At that same time Fox Sports starts two hours of Monster Jam followed at 2 p.m. with an Arenacross event.

NASCAR visits Phoenix this weekend. It’s the last time the track will look like this as it’s going to be changed by the fall.

Finally Eleven Sports has stage two from the World Rally Championship in Mexico then at 9:30 p.m. they’ll air stage 3 from the event.
