RACING PREVIEW: AUGUST 2 TO 5

RENO, NV (Aug. 1) – This week’s Racing Preview is full of local happenings as we ramp up for the Hot August Nights festival. The preview has local, regional and national events one can either attend or see on TV as well as on the Internet.

CRUISE AND CAR SHOWS:

•    This year’s Silver Dollar Car Classic in Carson City begins Thursday and runs through Sunday. The attached poster has the schedule, times and locations.

  • For those that have been making the Friday evening cruise in at Summit Racing in Sparks, well there won’t be another one until after HAN is over with. On the good side there will be some Summit events next week both in Sparks and Reno.

•    Hot August Nights (HAN) begins in Virginia City starting Friday with registration at 8 and the car show running from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Pre Kick Off party moves to Rancho San Rafael and runs from 9 until 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

The best way to keep track of the hundreds of HAN events is to check the schedule on their website at www.hotaugustnights.net.

•    On Saturday the 4th annual Myer Realty Show and Shine will be held from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at 1155 West 4th Street in Reno.

•    That same day from 9 until noon the EV and Espressos Tailgate Party will be at Glory Cloud Coffee located at 10 Gregg Street in Sparks. It’s for all you electric car fans.

  • Reno Cars and Coffee has its first weekend of the month gathering from 10 until noon Sunday at the Starbucks on Kietzke Lane.

•    The Bonanza Casino in North Virginia will host its 10th annual kick off Show N’ Shine from 10 until 4 p.m. on Sunday.

•    Finally the weekend winds down with the DooWop@Doughboys starting at 5 p.m. and going until dark. It’s located in the same shopping center as the south WalMart.

LOCAL AND REGIONAL RACING:

  • Rattlesnake Raceway in Fallon is hosting an all Outlaw Kart evening starting at 4 p.m. Saturday. The goal is to make up a date that was rained out as well as offer an extra event for this group.

•    That same evening, starting at 7 p.m., American Valley Speedway in Quincy, Calif. has another points race. This time there is extra money awarded to the winner of the Hobby Stock and Mini Stock races.

•    Later this month the KPX series will be visiting our area for the final race of that series. For the Northern Nevada Kart Club it will be the biggest race of the season.

Sunday, starting around 10 a.m. will be the last chance for drivers competing in the KPX races to get some racing and practice on the track at Desert Park Raceway. Should be a day full of hard racing.

•    Over the hill REP Racing is hosting the next in its Saturday Night Motocross races at the Riverfront track. Gates open at noon, practice at 4 with racing to follow.

There are two practice days at Riverfront, Thursday 5 to 10 p.m. and 9 to 2 p.m. Sunday.

E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The Arenacross track has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. on Saturday.

NATIONAL RACING:

Now it’s over to TV and Internet land.

Thursday begins at 2 p.m. when NBC Sports airs NASCAR America followed at 3 p.m. on Fox Sports 1 by NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 6 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30.

•    This week is the Loretta Lynn AMA Amateur Nationals and you can stream them live on www.fanschoice.tv. Day 3, or Thursday, starts at 8 a.m. while Friday, Day 4 has a 6:30 a.m. start time.

Back on TV for Friday NBC Sports has two sessions of Xfinity Series practice from Watkins Glen beginning at 9:35 a.m. At 4 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Friday Nitro Live from the Northwest Nationals.

•    Switching back to Fans Choice as the Internet Saturday is a busy day.

Day 5 from the AMA Amateur National Motocross event at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch starts at 5:30 a.m. followed at 10:25 by qualifying from Road America as the IMSA Weathertech sports car series gets going.

Then at 1:25 p.m. the network will stream the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race from Road America. And at 3:30 two short track events will be streamed starting at Berlin Raceway and ending at Langley Speedway.

Back to TV Land where at 7:05 a.m. Saturday NBC Sports begins with Cup and Xfinity qualifying followed at noon with the Xfinity Series race. Then at 3:35 p.m. the NASCAR Cup qualifying will start.

Finally at 7 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Saturday Nitro Live

This week the NASCAR Cup series is back on the road course at Watkins Glen.

Sunday begins at noon on NBC with the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from Watkins Glen. Then at 1 p.m. FOX has the NHRA Northwest Nationals from Kent, Washington.

•    Over on the Internet as the Sturgis TT will be streamed starting at 1 p.m. Then on Tuesday, at 2 p.m. the Black Hills Half Mile race, part of the American Flat Track series, will be streamed.

That’s about it for me this weekend. As I have suggested be sure to get out and enjoy some racing live as there is nothing like it.
