AMERICAN VALLEY SPEEDWAY FAIR RACES

QUINCY, CALIF. (Aug. 12) – American Valley Speedway’s annual Fair Races are part of the Plumas/Sierra County Fair. The racing ends the fair weekend, which is just before the local schools begin their new year.

Scott Forman celebrates after winning the IMCA A Mod feature.

After dominating the race, winner Scott Forman said, “I sort of figured these guys would be running me over sooner or later. The car handled good the first part of the race but in the last 10-laps it started to push a little bit. I figured I’d stay on the bottom and if someone is getting to pass on top they’re going to have to do it up there.”

Then he thanked his wife, grand daughter and her friends, PGAF Racing, Shryock Race Cars, Carlson’s Tire Pros.

The IMCA Modifieds or A Mods were the big race of the night and brought show to a close. When the green waved 16 drivers took off but things went off the rails as the pack stormed through Turn 3.

Five cars tangled and the officials halted the race as they went over to check on the drivers and carnage. Several pitted but most were able to come back so the field reformed for their second attempt to start the race.

When the IMCA Modified race began Scott Forman (4) and James Hite briefly ran side-by-side.

Once again Scott Forman was on point with James Hite close behind him. Behind the leaders faster cars started moving forward as Erica Buhr, Jeff Olschowka, Richard Papenhausen and Cory Sample began their charge.

Around the halfway point the Forman started reeling slower cars.

Asked about lap traffic he said, ” I sort of like to see them cause I figured if anyone was behind me and I could get through them better it would give me more of a cushion so I didn’t mind seeing them.

In lap traffic A mod leader Scott Forman is about to lap Jim Turner.

Then there was a caution late in the race after Joe Wood wound up sideways in Turn 2.

On the restart Matt Murphy took over second while Hite slipped to third and Sample took over fourth. Up front it was all Forman as the streaked across the finish line first.

Later Murphy said, ” After the last caution my right rear tire went….gone. I was just hanging on for dear life, I don’t know why his car didn’t go off “.

To some finishing third isn’t such a great thing but to James Hite it was and his car hardly had a mark on it.

“I’m not sure how the car came out so clean, it’s a mystery as usually I’m hitting everything under the sun. That was a career best right there, best night I’ve had ever,” he said.

The Sport Mods are a pretty stout division at American Valley Speedway on this night 10 of them took the green as their 20-lap main began.

However this time Turn 2 was calamity corner as several cars tangled. After everything was sorted out the field reformed and took the green again.

Up front Jason Emmot was on point until he lost the handle and spun in Turn 2 causing another caution. This time Craig Nieman would jump into the lead on the restart and go into cruise control.

One of the scrambles in the Sport Mod main as then leader Jason Emmot loses the handle.

Behind the leader James Lipke would eventually took over second while Tyler Ecklos was in third. They finished that way as up front there was no way anybody was going to catch Nieman.

The Hobby Stock main seemed to get off to a good start until the car of Lance Bain ended up sideways in Turn 2. After everyone got back into position the green waved again and this time Jimmy Ray Huffmon was on point.

Once again there was a quick caution after the car of Fred Kresge stopped. Then after the next restart three cars driven by Bain, Jim Erle and Seaton Montgomery tangled in Turn 3.

The track crew red flagged the race until they got everyone sorted out so the race could resume. They also cut the race length to nine laps.

There would be still another caution after another car spun. By now Huffmon had Shayna Robertson and Rick Miller on the second row behind him.

The track uses an Outlaw Start where the leader is alone in front and the first side-by-side row are for the second and third place cars.

Rick Miller makes the winning pass on Jimmy Ray Huffmon during the Hobby Stock main.

On the green Miller jumped into second then used an inside move to grab the lead with just a couple of laps to go. In the end it was Miller, Huffmon and Robertson taking the first three spots.

When the Mini Stocks started their 15-lap main Ray Talaveras Jr., briefly led until Colton Lawson used an outside move to take the lead. Right after that the leader and Jonny Moya tangled causing a caution while Lawson pulled onto the infield.

Two quick cautions slowed things again but soon the battle for the lead was between Kate Robertson and Cody Froggatt. Lap after lap they dueled and in the end Froggatt won the day with Robertson finishing second ahead of third placed Conner McMillian.
