RENO, NV (Aug. 15) – Racing preview for this week still has some places to cruise, racing in our area, a special race in Nevada plus national events. It’s another full buffet for race fans to enjoy.
CRUISE/SHOW N’ SHINES:
- On Friday the Summit Racing Cruise In’s resume. The location is on East Glendale in Sparks and time is 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
• There are two Show N’ Shines in Carson City Saturday.
The first is at Fuji Park from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. and it’s the 5th annual Send A Scout to Camp Car show sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 33. Over at the Carson High School, from 2 until 7 p.m. there will be the “A Place To Shine,” fundraiser.
- Since it’s the third Sunday of the month that means Reno Cars and Coffee will have another meet. The Starbucks on Robb Drive is the location and the meet starts at 10 a.m. and runs until noon. Photo courtesy – Lance Freitas.
• Once again if you want to wind down on Sunday, try the Doo Wop@Doughboys located in the parking lot by the South WalMart. It’s a low key event, starts at 5 p.m. and a great way to visit with car people.
RACING (LOCAL AND STATE):
- Things get rolling Friday morning at 5:45 outside of Las Vegas as Best In The Desert starts the annual Vegas to Reno race. It takes about 11 hours for the fastest to reach the finish in Dayton.

At 550 miles this is the longest off road race in the country with the finish outside of Dayton.
• Due to the Vegas to Reno race Top Gun Dragstrip, located south of Fallon has changed its schedule so there is no $5 this week. This due to the off road race going past the drag strip.

In its place there is a $5 Saturday. The week they’ll race round 8 of the ET and Junior Dragster series as well as round 4 of the ET Challenge series.
Only one more race is scheduled for this season.

- Locally the big race in the Reno area is at Desert Park Raceway where the Northern Nevada Kart Club is hosting the KPX race, which ends that series.
Friday is for practice while the action Saturday begins at 3 p.m. and goes into the night. For further information please check the club’s website at www.nnkcreno.com or their Face Book page.
• For you mountain bike racing fans Sky Tavern on the Mt. Rose Highway is having another of its Friday night races. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. and after the races they usually show a movie.
• Over in California Riverfront MX Park is having Round 6 of the REP Saturday Night Series. Gates at 2 p.m., practice at 4 with racing to follow.

E Street MX Park is closed Saturday for a private event then has practice from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday.
Prairie City has practice 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL):
• Now we over to TV Land. On Thursday things start early as Fox Sports 1, at 6:05 a.m., begins with Camping World Truck practice from Bristol Motor Speedway.
At 7:05 a.m. NBC Sports has Xfinity practice followed at 1:10 by truck qualifying. Finally at 5:30 p.m. Fox will broadcast the Camping World Truck race from Bristol.
• Friday begins at 7:35 a.m. as NBC Sports has NASCAR Cup and Xfinity practice then at 2:40 the Cup drivers qualify. Finally at 4:30 p.m. the network broadcasts the Xfinity race.
Switching to Fox Sports 1 at 3 p.m. they’ll show NHRA Friday Nitro Live.
• Saturday is another big racing day starting with the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series that visits Budds Creek. The first motos, starting at 11 a.m. are shown on MAVTV while the second motos can be seen on NBC Sports starting at noon.
The NASCAR Cup event is at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend.

Then at 4:30 p.m. on NBC Sports it’s the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from Bristol, which is like rockets in a bathtub and is usually full of action. Not to mention banged up cars and tempers.
Over on www.fanschoice.tv there are several races being streamed on Saturday.
Things begin at 8:30 a.m. with the American Flat Track race, the Peoria TT. Then at 11:15 a.m. the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge from Virginia International Raeway.
Two short track races will also be streamed starting at 3:30 p.m. and you’ll see one from Berlin Raceway followed by one from Meridian Speedway.
Switching back to TV Land where Sunday also has a bunch of racing to watch.
Starting at 9 a.m. CBS Sports begins a series of programs that include the British and German Touring Car series then two hours of Motorcycle road racing and ending with a Lucas Oil Off Road Series event.

Fox Sports 1 gets rolling at 10 a.m. with the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car race from Virginia International Raceway. That coverage switches to Fox Sports 2 at 11 when Fox Sports 1 broadcasts the finals from the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainard.
NBC Sports, at 11 a.m. will have the Indy Car race from Pocono.
The Indy Cars take to the Triangle or Pocono this Sunday.
