RACING PREVIEW: SEPT.13 TO 16

RENO, NV (Sept. 12) – Racing Preview this week has more Show N’ Shines, Racing for this region as well as on TV and the Internet. Seasons are ending so it’s a busy weekend.

CRUISE/SHOW N’ SHINES:

•   This Saturday there are two Show N’ Shines with the closest being at Summit Racing Equipment in Sparks. The Wicked Ways Car Club is hosting this and part of the proceeds will benefit Joshua Southworth’s Medical Fund.

Registration for this event is from 8 until 10 a.m. after that the public show opens and runs from 10:30 until 4 p.m.

Next is the Gold Creek Show N’ Shine from 8 until 4 p.m. in Downtown Dayton. For futher information please call Dennis at 775-246-1628.

•    Next Wednesday, Sept. 19, is a special Endurocross Party from 6 until 8 p.m. at PJandCo on south Wells. Two local riders are competing in the Endurocross meet on Saturday, September 22nd.

It’s a great chance to meet Reece Honea an Ty Tremaine. Those attending can win tickets to the event as well as free raffle prizes.

RACING (REGIONAL):

  • The big event for this area is the Stihl National Championship Air Races. Qualifying ended yesterday and racing began in the afternoon.

After qualifying Andrew Findlay’s Stihl sponsored Sport Plane is pushed back to the hanger.

Racing continues through Sunday and the weather should be great. For schedules and further information please go to www.airrace.org.

•    Top Gun Raceway ends its 2018 season this weekend starting with $5 Friday from 6 p.m. until Midnight.

Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. has round 9 of the Summit ET and Junior Dragster series as well as the NHRA All Access Tom Gunner Shoot Out. Sunday, also starting at 10 a.m. has round 10 of the Summit ET and Junior Dragster series and ends with the King of the Track.

The races scheduled for Lovelock Speedway this Friday are cancelled.

To the east Fernley 95A Speedway has racing starting at 6 p.m. Saturday and to the south at 7 p.m. Tonopah Speedway ends it 2018 season.

Over in the two-wheeled world Battle Born MX has the second race of its fall season hosted by the Old Timer’s Club. The location is the Motocross track in Fernley. Practice is on Saturday while racing begins close to 9 a.m. Sunday.

The practice schedule for the Northern California Motocross track is as follows.

Riverfront is hosting an Over The Hill Gang race this weekend but there is practice from 5 p.m. until 710 p.m. Thursday.

Friday’s practice is for the OTHG group and runs from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday is race day, gates open at 6:30 a.m., practice starts at 8 a.m. with racing to follow.

Prairie City will close for a couple of weeks after this weekend. Thursday practice is from 2 until 7 p.m. and the final practice before the closing is from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

The Arenacross track will have an all bike practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Saturday. E Street MX Park has practice from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

  • This weekend NASCAR’s Play Offs begin as does the NHRA Count Down as both series head to the championship rounds.

Now over to TV Land.

•    On Wednesday the K&N Series West returns to racing on a dirt track for the first time in 40 years. Many in this series are drivers working their way up to the big leagues but some others are returning for this event. Although the race is Thursday at the Las Vegas dirt track the TV broadcast is delayed until September 21 on NBC Sports.

•    Thursday is a bit slim, a good time to check with www.youtube.com for races one has missed.

NBC Sports will have Camping World Truck practice starting at 2:05 p.m. from Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

•    Friday begins at 11:05 a.m. as NBC Sports has NASCAR Cup practice followed by Xfiinity practice.

Then at 3:05 p.m. the trucks qualify followed at 4:30 by Cup qualifying. Finally at 6 p.m. the network airs the Camping World Truck race.

REPORTER’S NOTE: With a major hurricane heading toward the east coast and the rain that comes with a storm of this size any event on the east coast or inland might be iffy.

Over on Fox Sports 1 at 4 p.m. they will show NHRA Nitro Live from Reading, PA as the Dodge Nationals begin.

•    Saturday begins at 10:05 a.m. with NASCAR Cup practice from Las Vegas followed at 2 p.m. with the Xfinity race.

Over on Fox Sports 1 at 1 p.m. the NHRA Saturday Nitro event will be aired.

•    Switching to the Internet www.fanschoice.tv also have events streamed that day.

The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series has the Elite 1 race at 4 a.m. followed by the Elite 2 event at 8:10 a.m.

Then at 9:30 a.m. the network streams the AMA Pro Hillclimb event from Middle Tennessee. This is followed by two short track races from Meridan Speedway and at Langley Speedway.

 

  • Back to TV Land for Sunday as ESPN 2, at 5:05 a.m. broadcasts the Formula One race from Singapore.
NASCAR

NASCAR begins its play offs this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

NBC Sports, at noon, has the Monster Energy NASCAR CUP race from Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

 

At 3:30 p.m. NBC Sports airs the season ending Indy Car event from Sonoma Raceway. Double points as well as this year’s championship are on the line at this race.

Then Fox Sports One, starting at 4:30 p.m. airs the final rounds of the NHRA Dodge Nationals.

•  The Nevada Kart Sport team headed south last weekend for the IKF/KPX Grand Nationals in Fresno.

Young Jack Schrady came home with a Screaming Eagle trophy he won at the IKF/KPX Grand Nationals this weekend. Here is with his father and Nevada Kart Sport owner Rodney Rivers.

Young Jack Schrady won a Screaming Eagle trophy for setting the fastest lap in the Jr. 1 206 main and then earned podium positions in both the Mini Swift and 206 divisions.

Brian Hill had a podium finish in Senior Heavy and Master’s 206. Young Cain Fredricks was on the podium in the Junior 2 206 main while Jeff Wamre had a podium finish in the KA100 Masters division.

Bryce Berry, who has stepped up to the Senior 206 class finished 12th in that race.

•    Remember on Tuesday to listen or stream Teresa’s Garage Radio Show that is on from 2 until 3 p.m. We cover all things automotive during the hour long broadcast.
