RACING PREVIEW: SEPT. 27 TO 30

RENO, NV (Sept. 26) – Racing Preview for this week has some local, national and international events. Cruising and show n’ shines this weekend are for motorcycles since Street Vibrations Fall Rally is going on.

RACING (LOCAL AND REGIONAL):

Fernley 95A Speedway

Fernley 95A Speedway ends its 2018 points season this Saturday.

  • Saturday starting at 6 p.m. Fernley 95A Speedway will host its final points race of the season. Speed and action are usually on tap for our area’s longest dirt track. Any championships that are undecided will be at the end of the evening and its a final chance for any driver to improve their points position.
  • Battle Born MX

    Battle Born MX runs its next round of the fall season this weekend.

  • Not far away, Battle Born MX is hosting another round of its fall series at the Sandbox or Fernley MX track. Practice on Saturday is from 9 until 2 p.m., gates open Sunday at 6 p.m. with practice at 8 and racing to follow.

•    Over the hill in Northern California three motocross tracks have practice sessions scheduled.

E Street MX Park is reserved Saturday for a private ride day but will have open practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday. Riverfront has practice Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The Hangtown track at Prairie City is closed until mid-October however the Arenacross track has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. on Saturday.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

•  Now over to TV Land as there is still plenty of racing either live or repeated to see.

• Thursday begins on NBC Sports at 2 p.m. with NASCAR America followed at 3 p.m. by a repeat of a K&S Pro East race then at 4 p.m. a delayed broadcast of a Whelen Modified Tour event.

Over on Fox Sports 1 at 3 p.m. there is NASCAR Race Hub followed at 4 p.m. with the repeat of a NHRA drag racing event.

This week the top two series in NASCAR are at Charlotte where most of the teams are based so it’s kind of a home coming for them.

•  Friday gets going at 9:05 a.m. with NASCAR Cup practice followed by Xfinity practice then at 1:45 the Cup drivers qualify on the new Roval track.

This new track uses a new road course in the middle of the oval as well as part of the oval itself.

• Saturday starts on ESPN2 at 4:55 a.m. when the Formula 1 drivers qualify for this weekend’s Grand Prix of Russia.

Then at 9:10 a.m. CNBC has Xfinity qualifying and at noon NBC Sports has the Xfinity race on the oval.

•  Switching to the Internet www.fanschoice.tv has three races with the first starting at noon with the American Flat Track event from the Minnesota Mile. Then, starting at 3:30 p.m. there is a race at Berlin Raceway and following that one at Tucson Speedway.

•  Back to TV Land for Sunday, which has a varied menu of racing shows.

At 3:30 a.m. ESPN 2 has the Formula 1 race from Russia followed by 11 a.m. as NBC airs the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup event on the new Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

NASCAR

NASCAR Cup racers will compete on the new Roval track this Sunday.

A lot is on the line as when the checked flag waves some drivers are probably going to be eliminated from the Play Offs.

Then at 2 p.m. NBC Sports airs a new Motorsports Hour.

Over on CBS Sports there are a bunch of events to watch starting at 11 a.m. with Rolex Monterey Motorsports and followed by Motocross, MX2, then Motocross MXGP and ends with a FIA Blancpain Endurance Series race.

That’s it for this weekend. Be sure to get out to a race while you can as the season’s end is fast approaching.
