RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY: NPSA FINALE AND DTC

FALLON, NV (OCT.6): Rattlesnake Raceway hosted the annual Dirt Track Championships and the Nevada Pro Stock Association ended its season Saturday. It was one of several divisions and the stars that raced that night.

To the victor goes the money. Bill Pearson holds the winner’s money after his victory in the Pro Stock main.

“It was rough and Jeff (Olschowka) made a mistake so I got by him,” Bill Pearson said after winning the race. “I didn’t realize how close they were then right at the end I was like, ‘man I can hear somebody there.’ I want to thank my uncle B.J., he owns the car and Pearson Realty is our biggest sponsor and Paula Earl, who is a realtor.”

When the green waved on the 12 pro stock Jeff Olschowka driving the car Jesse Gonzalez owns took off. Right behind him was Pearson in his uncle’s yellow Nuclear Banana car.

At the start of the Pro Stock main Jeff Olschowa (2) and Bill Pearson sweep past Robert Mull (white car).

There was a quick caution for debris but the restart had to be called back. Once things got going Olschowka was again on point.

Behind the lead duo Jay Sears, who was the point leader began to work his way toward the front. But on lap 4 Sears spun after contact with another car then pitted.

Now there were eight cars left due to retirements and Sears was at the back but began moving toward the front. Up front Olschowka and Pearson were setting a torrid pace.

By lap 7 there were two more cautions so the officials cut the race length to 22-laps. And there was a short red flag period so one car could be pulled off the berm.

After Olschowka’s mistake put Pearson in the lead he was under pressure from Antonio Aragon.

Once things got going again the Olschowka-Pearson duo was joined by Antonio Aragon. After a few laps Olschowka went up the track exiting Turn 4 handing the lead to Pearson.

Shortly after that another caution came after the car Sears was driving apparently had its rear suspension break ending his night. Now the officials ordered all restarts to be single file.

Broken rear suspension ended points leader Jay Sears night.

After another caution there were only six cars running out of the 12 starters. The final restart came with only five laps to go.

While Pearson had the lead Olschowka was making a determined charge after the leader. Aragon proved difficult to get past so there was a bit of the chrome horn used to make that pass.

In his charge to the front Olschowka applied the chrome horn to Aragon.

Coming out of the final turn Olschowka was right behind Pearson and almost caught him as they raced to the flag. In fact they almost ended up side-by-side at the line with Aragon not far behind in third.

Squeaker of a finish as Olschowka almost caught Pearson at the finish.

At the awards ceremony Pearson collected the $1,000 winner’s prize and the season was over. Despite not finishing the race Sears won the championship by only nine points over Robert Miller.

REPORTER’S NOTE: When this article was posted I still had not seen the results for either Saturday or Sunday.

In the other races Randy Boyd won Saturday’s Hobby Stock main while Jesse James was the Mod Mini victor while Ryan Blankenship topped the Gen-X class.
