RACING PREVIEW: OCT 18 TO 21

 

RENO, NV (Oct. 17) – This week’s Racing Preview highlights a trio of events in our region, a big event in California as well as what’s on TV and the Internet.

CAR EVENTS:

  • Saturday has three events on tap starting with the annual Classics and Cocktails put on by Hot August Nights at the Atlantis Casino. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and it’s a dress up affair for charity.

•   At the end of the month there will be a Trunk N’ Treat event so Bully’s Sports Bar in Carson City, from 6 until 8 p.m. is hosting a fundraiser for this.

•   On Sunday Reno Cars & Coffee is hosting its third weekend of the month meet at the Starbucks on Robb Drive. The event runs from 10 a.m. until noon and usually has some great cars on display,

RACING (LOCAL AND REGIONAL):

  • We’re blessed with a trio of events in our region this weekend.

•   Friday and Saturday is when the Wild West Motorsports Park is visited by the Nitto Tire Ultra 4 National Championships.

Friday is for practice and qualifying on a short course starting around noon. Saturday’s racing after the prelims gets rolling at noon for some of the wildest racing you can imagine.

•   To the east at Donner Ski Ranch the Donner Hare Scrambles will happen this weekend. Saturday’s action begins at 8 a.m. with the Pee Wee race followed by the other races slated for that day.

Sunday begins at 8:30 a.m. with ATV racing followed by two big bike classes starting at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Should be great weather for this motorcycle event.

•   To the east the Winnemucca MX Club is hosting the High Desert Top Truck event Friday and Saturday. Then on Sunday it’s the off Road Carnival hosted by the Jeep Junkies.

This appears to be a night event but part of it is at the MX track on Jungo Road. Friday’s start time is 5 p.m. while Saturday’s is at 9 p.m. For further information please check the website at www.outlawsoftoptruck.ca/events.

•   Over the hill there is a huge event at Sonoma Raceway, formerly known as Sears Point. The SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) is hosting its national run off this weekend.

The event began on Wednesday and will run through Sunday. It is being streamed live all day and the action begins around 8 each morning.

Around 500 competitors will be racing in these winner-take-all events. The event will be streamed on www.scca.com.

•   All three of the Northern California MX tracks will be operation this weekend.

Prairie City has an Over The Hill Gang race Saturday and Sunday but on Thursday the track will have an open practice from 2 until 6 p.m.

Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday and from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday. E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL):

• While Thursday is very slim pickings one can either watch reruns or stream the SCCA National Run Offs from Sonoma Raceway. Those broadcasts can be found at www.scca.com.

Other than that at 2 p.m. NBC Sports has NASCAR America followed at 3 p.m. on Fox Sports 1 with NASCAR Race Hub.

•   Friday gets going on NBC Sports at 11:05 with NASCAR Cup then Xfinity practice from Kansas. Then at 4:10 the Cup cars will qualify for Sunday’s race.

•   Saturday begins at 8:30 a.m. on NBC Sports with Xfinity qualifying then at 11:55 on NBC with the race.

•   Sunday has two major events to watch. Starting on ABC at 10:30 a.m. there is the Formula One United Stated Grand Prix from Austin, Texas.

NASCAR

NASCAR is at Kansas this weekend.

Then at 11:30 NBC broadcasts the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from Kansas. It’s another elimination round in this year’s Play Offs that ends with the championship round at Homestead.

OTHER RACING NEWS:
