RACING PREVIEW: NOV. 29 TO DEC. 2

RENO, NV (Nov. 28) – While we’re getting deeper into the rerun zone this week’s Racing Preview does have some live events as well as what’s on TV and the Internet. Plus I’m highlighting some charity events as well.

CHARITY RIDES AND DONATIONS:

This is the season for giving and helping brighten the holidays for children. Two events highlight this weekend while there is another on going effort to help the youngsters.

Reno Cars and Coffee

  • Sunday is a big day as Reno Cars and Coffee has its 3rd Annual Toy Drive. It all begins at the Keitzke Starbucks at 10 a.m. with the usually car show and collection of unwrapped toys.

Then at 11:30 everyone packs up and heads to the Northtowne Winco parking lot. There they join forces with the Old Slammers of Reno Car Club and collect even more toys.

This effort is to aid the Children’s Cabinet.

Those in the two-wheel crowd aren’t left out as they too have the 38th annual Reno Toy Run. All brands of motorcycles are welcome and signups are from 9:00 to 11:30 in the morning at Reno Harley Davison.

The Toy Run ends at the convention center with food, music and refreshments as well as collecting the toys. And it appears Sunday will be good weather for both efforts

Down south in Minden there is an ongoing toy drive at Testa Motorsports. In fact they’ll be part of the Parade of Lights on Saturday evening.

This drive goes until the 19th of December and some of the toys are headed over the hill to brighten Christmas for the kids whose parents lost everything in that fire that destroyed Paradise.

RACING:

  • Latest word from the three Northern California Motocross tracks is that they are all closed through Friday due to the expected rain.

The weekend sessions may or may not happen depending on what Mother Nature does. So the best bet is to call the hotline on Friday and that number is 1-77-265-7223.

•   One more off-road race to go this year. Starting yesterday the Best in the Desert series started the Pahrump Nugget race for the gold 250.

The event begins and works its way through pre-running on Thursday with the actual race happening on Saturday. The awards are handed out Sunday and it should be another wild, fast desert race to end the racing year.

•   This is also championship week in Las Vegas for NASCAR as the week has several awards programs. Unfortunately only one is televised.

On Thursday, starting at 6 p.m. on NBC Sports, live coverage of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup celebration happens. That’s when the cup champion is crowned ending the 2018 season for NASCAR.

Over at www.mavtv.com there will be a series of programs, all reruns, of races this past season. Starting at noon will be the Powri Racing Speedweek finale followed by Super Cup Stock Cars.Continuing are the Lucas Oil Drag Boats, Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series then Speed Sport 2018 and Madera racing..

•   Friday is pretty slim but one can watch races from this year on www.youtube.com, www.fanschoice.tv, and www.racertv.com.

•   Saturday does have a live race to watch as it will be streamed on fanschoice. The event begins at 2:30 p.m. and is the Gary McNary Memorial from Marion County Speedway in Ocala, Florida.

Back to over to mavtv and things start at 9 a.m. with the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Championships followed by Pro Motocross from Glen Helen, Lucas Oil Dirt Late Models, Side Car racing from France and Spain the ending with a repeat of the Knoxville Nationals.

  • Sunday begins at 9 a.m. with Mobil 1 The Grid followed by Xtreme Off Road. Then at 10:30 its Supercross Aus X.

Over on fanschoice at 11 a.m. the network will stream a NASCAR Peak Mexico Series race from Mexico City.

That’s it for this weekend. If you can please try and help out with one of the toy drives. Hope everyone has a safe weekend, especially if bad weather is in your area. See you next week.
