RACING (REGIONAL):

  • REP Racing is planning on having a race at one of its three tracks this Sunday. Unfortunately the hot line wasn’t updated when this preview was posted so the best advice is to call 775-265-7223 or contact www.repracingmx.com.

•    MMX Racing in Marysville, Calif. has both practice sessions as well as a race on tap to welcome the new year. Their Hot Line over there is 530-419-5200.

Friday has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. as well as on Saturday and there’s also a ride day for OSMX then practice is from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday.

New Year’s Day gates open at 6:30 a.m. as the Hangover Classic begins around 8 a.m. for all classes an there is even a team race. Good way to get the year started.

•    For those just wanting a ride as well as helping people affected by the Camp Fire that wiped out Paradise and other places. So Chico Honda has organized a benefit ride on New Year’s Day.

The four-wheel racing community can also celebrate the New Year. Over the hill Stockton’s Dirt Track is having its Racing into the New Year event.

Featured classes will be A-Mods, B-Mods, Bombers and B4 Cylinders. Should be a good time over there and a nice, if some what loud way to start the year.

RACING (TV):

  • Off into the Rerun Zone we go but soon green flags will begin to wave and live racing returns to screens and on the Internet. The wait is almost over.

•    Thursday gets rolling at noon when www.mavtv.com has the Super Cup Stock Car series followed by Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing, Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. After that comes Speed Sport an Madera Racing.

•    As usual Friday is pretty empty of racing but there are sites on the Internet that will help with a fan’s racing itch.

There is www.fanschoice.tv, www.speedshifttv.com and www.lucasoilracing.com. In addition one can go to www.youtube.com and find many races from NASCAR, Indy Car and other series as well. Great way to catch up on racing that was missed during the season.

•    Saturday gets going at 9 a.m. on mavtv as they begin with Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Motocross Championships followed by Pro Motocross from Southwick then Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and FIM Sidecarcross, which is pretty insane racing.

Then at 2:30 p.m. NBC Sports begins a marathon of Mecum Auto Auctions. Good way to see what some cars are getting in the auction world.

•    Sunday begins at 10 a.m. as CBS Sports begins a marathon of shows from the recent SCCA National runoffs held this fall at Sonoma Raceway. Amateur road racers competing for national championships in their classes.

Back to mavtv at 2 p.m. as the networks starts with Lucas Oil Off Road Racing followed by Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing, Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League. Then they have Tony Stewarts’s All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car series and finally Short Track America events.

That’s it for this weekend. Time to celebrate not only the New Year but the arrival of live racing that will soon replace the Rerun Zone.

Best wishes to all our readers for a Happy and Fast New Year. Be safe out there and see you next week.
