LOCAL RACER HEADS FOR SUPERCROSS

RENO, NV (Dec. 31) – A local motocross racer is headed to Anaheim, California this week. Aaron Siminoe is going to return to the Supercross series that begins Saturday.

The series is large stadium motocross and travels across the country and Canada. For many it begins the racing year.

“I’m going to be participating in the West Coast Lights Supercross,” he said. “The light is the 250F and the premier class is 450. I’m back in the 250 Class because of AMA’s guidelines. They said since I’ve had a three-year hiatus from not competing professionally that I would jump down to 250 Class, participate for a couple of rounds then the following year I’d be eligible to jump back up to 450.”

The west series begins in Anaheim, where it races twice, Arizona, Oakland and San Diego. Then these riders get a six to eight week break before the series returns to the west.

Both series usually meet in a final run off at the season finale in Las Vegas.

Asked about the break he said, “It’s a long time but I feel it’s a necessary time to regroup and figure out what we’ve been missing for those first six rounds. Then the last four we’ll come in hard.”

While the conditioning isn’t a problem Siminoe said his effort will focus on perfecting on what they have done.

“Being on the bike, getting more comfortable with it and adapting to it with the Kawasaki of Reno Kawasaki that I’ll be competing on,” he said. “They have stepped up huge, they have gone leaps and bounds above what anybody in the Reno has been able to do. I’m really appreciative of John and James as well as every that works here at Kawasaki of Reno.”

The dealership is supplying Simione with the dirt bike he’s going to ride for the west coast series. It is the KX250F 2019 edition.

“I got the brand new edition. When I took it home I looked at it and wondered if it was the 18 then I started Goggling, found out it was a 19 then I got even more excited,” he said. “It’s been a while since I had a brand new bike and I really appreciate everything these guys are doing for me.”

The last time he competed in the Supercross series he mainly stayed in Southern California but not this time.

“For the time being we’re going to be based here out of Reno. Because of financial reasons and the way everything timed out,” he said. “If we had more time I’d be able to figure out more living situations down there. But for the first three to four rounds we’ll be up here in Reno and driving back and forth and I think that will be better as we’ll have more of a home base.”

He feels this will allow him to get away from all the traffic and just focus on getting better every day.

Looking toward the races he said, “Competition isn’t really on my mind right now as my only goal is to better myself every single round. And to just focus on myself and know what I can do to get better.”

At each race they begin during the day with three practices, two timed, one a free practice, a heat race, a LCQ if necessary, which he hopes not to need, then the main event.

“The main events are 15 minutes, they went minutes instead of laps this time,” he said. “We’ll usually probably run about 18-laps.”

Of course any effort like this needs a lot of support and Simione is very appreciative of the sponsors that are helping him

“A lot of my old sponsors I had in the past when I raced in 2014 and 2015 have joined back on, which is really exciting,” he said.

Kawasaki of Reno stepped up and gave Aaron Siminoe the bike he’s going to use in the 250 West series, which is part of the Supercross series.

“I’m really, really appreciative of what John and James at Kawaski of Reno has done,” he said.

John Thurmond, co-owner of the dealership along with James Griffith, when asked about their involvement said, “Aaron has a lot of awesome talent out there on the track and we’re definitely big fans of Supercross. We look forward to seeing him in some of the big shows and hopefully the podium.”

The name of the game is to improve every race with the goal of making it back to the 450 Class next year. So again we have another Northern Nevada Racer heading for the big time.
