RACING PREVIEW: JANUARY 4 TO 6, 2019

RENO, NV (Jan. 3) – First Racing Preview of the year has several events to highlight as well as what’s on TV and the Internet. For NASCAR fans, take heart, as the Daytona 500 is only 44 days away.

CAR MEETS:

Reno Cars & Coffee

Reno Cars and Coffee has its first meet of the New Year this Sunday.

  • Locally, since it’s the first weekend of the month Reno Cadrs & Coffee will have a meet at the Kietzke Lane Starbucks from 10 a.m. until noon. Even though the weather might be unsettled there will usually be some that attend as it’s a good time to see some great looking cars.

RACING (REGIONAL):

  • The Racing Preview shows the green flag will wave this weekend as the Orland Raceway holds a benefit race to help the victims of the North State Wildfire. Four classes are on the card so if the weather holds it should be a good night of racing.

  • Three motocross tracks will have practice sessions this week and weekend.

Riverfront has practice Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. then 9 until 2 p.m. on Sunday. E Street Motocross Park has sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Prairie City has practice from1 until 5 p.m. Thursday then from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

Monster Energy Supercross

Monster Energy Supercross 2019 schedule.

  • While many might be focused on football Saturday others will be watching the start of this years Monster Energy Supercross Series from Anaheim, California.

It’s a marathon of races that goes until May 4th when ends in Las Vegas.

New this year is NBC Sports broadcasting the events. They are using a two tier system so those buying the Gold Pass will see more of the events rather than just the heat races and mains.

These races are always action packed and wild affairs as the best motocross riders face off on a different track every week.

The Racing Preview has the full two tier schedule is posted at the end of this article.

•  Internationally there is another event that is features cars, trucks and motorcycles. That is the Dakar Rally and for the first time in its history the rally will be held in one country, Peru.

NBC Sports will have caps of the day’s racing that starts Sunday, January 6 and runs through the 18th. Those wishing further information should check out the rally’s website at, www.dakar.com/en/.

Now off we go to TV Land where the majority is still in the Rerun Zone.

•  Thursday is an all www.mavtv.com show that begins at noon with Powri Racing followed by Super Cup Stock Car Series, Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing, Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League and Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

Then they’ll stream Speed Sport and Madera Racing.

•   Friday is a great time to check out other Internet sites.

Two of them are www.fanschoice.tv as well as www.youtube.com. A couple of others, which are pay sites, www.speedshift.tv and www.lucasoilracing.com.

•  Things pick up on Saturday starting at noon as mavtv has Lucas Oil Saturday Nights Racing followed by Lucas Oil ASCS, then Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. After that it’s the crazy world of FIM Sidecarcross with events in Latvia and Estonia.

Of course many fans will also be glued to their TVS and phones watching the start of the Supercross season, which was highlighted earlier in this article.

•   Sunday is a bit slim although CBS Sports, beginning at 3 p.m. has two hours of Lucas Oil Off Road Racing. Over on MAVTV starting at that same time there is a group of more repeat broadcast of various races.That begins with Lucas Oil Drag Boats followed by Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League then Tony Stewarts All Star Circuit of Champions and Short Track Races.
