RACING PREVIEW: JAN. 31 TO FEB.3

RENO, NV (Jan. 30) – Racing Preview for this week has more live racing including an International event as well as two desert events. Still a bunch in the Rerun Zone but that’s about to change.

CAR MEETS/CRUISES:

  • The first weekend of the new month means Reno Cars & Coffee will have its meet from 10 a.m. until Noon Sunday at the Kietzke Starbucks. It’s a great way to see some fantastic machinery and enjoy the fellowship of other car lovers.

RACING (REGIONAL, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

  • Friday marks the opening of Hammer Town down in Johnson Valley, California. For the nine days its Burning Man for gear heads as the Ultra 4 season gets going with King of the Hammers.

•    Further south at Parker, Arizona the Best In The Desert series host the second event of its season. It’s the Blue Water Parker 425 that starts Thursday and runs through Sunday.

The racing happens Saturday with the awards handed out on Sunday. Incoming weather could make this event either a no-dust race or a possible mud bog, have to see what happens.

•    Since a storm is heading our way three motocross track in Northern California are waiting to see what happens. Until then there are two practice sessions scheduled.

On Thursday from 1 until 5 p.m. Prairie City will host a session while Riverfront has one from 4 until 9 p.m.

The hotline should be updated either Thursday or Friday with the final word on round 2 of the Best of the West series slated for E Street MX Park on Sunday. For further information please call 1-775-265-7223.

•    Racing Preview has one international event this weekend when the Australian Supercars run the Bathurst 12 hour race. Drivers negotiate a road course then go up and down a mountain in a wild event.

Like Ultra 4 there will be a live feed and for further information please check www.bathurst12hour.com.au. Do remember they are on the other side of the International Date Line so the race will be run on Saturday in the U.S. but on Sunday over there.

• Thursday on Racing Preview not only has a visit to the Rerun Zone but live feeds from the NASCAR test in Las Vegas.

Things begin at 8 a.m. and one must go to www.nascar.com/lasvegastest to watch it. Many of the top teams will be there sorting out their cars.

Then at noon over at www.mavtv.com there will be a series of events from last year.

The list begins with Powri Racing followed by Super Cup Stock Car Series, Lucas Oil Drag Boats, Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and ending with Speed Sport and Madera Racing.

•    Friday starts off at 8 a.m. with the second day of NASCAR testing from Las Vegas. Then to the southwest the King of the Hammers week gets started.

From there we head back to Mavtv and into the Rerun Zone. Starting at 10 a.m. Mavtv rebroadcasts the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl followed at 1 p.m. by the Tulsa Shoot Out.

This is followed by Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series then its two races from Germany for the FIM Sidecarcross series.

At 7 p.m. NBC Sports has the next round of the Monster Energy Supercross series. This time they race in San Diego before heading east.

  • Sunday’s Racing Preview starting at 8 a.m., has a repeat of Truck Night in America. See how the contestants handle the challenges they are given.

After that it’s all mavtv. The best group of programs happens in the afternoon beginning at 2 p.m. with Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series and followed by Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League.

Then Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions followed by Short Track America ends the afternoon.

That’s it for this weekend’s Racing Preview. Now we’re beginning to have more live races and less in the Rerun Zone.
