RACING PREVIEW: MARCH 28 TO 31

RENO, NV (March 27) – Racing Preview for this weekend has a lot going on in our region as well as nationally. Local racing is getting ready to roll if only Mother Nature would cooperate.

CARS AND CRUISES:

Northern Nevada Camaro Club

  • Northern Nevada Camaro Club gets the weekend rolling staring at 10 a.m. Saturday as they gather at Summit Racing located at 960 East Glendale in Sparks. Usually there is a cruise beginning around 11 a.m.
Street Kings Motorcycle Club

  • The Street Kings Motorcycle Club of Nevada is hosting the 5th annual Rid for Soldiers to benefit the Veteran’s Guest House. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the location is 880 Locust Street in Reno. The ride ends at 1930 Prater Street in Sparks, the Street Kings Club house.

•     On Sunday up at Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe there is another car meet. It runs from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and is the Spring Loaded Exotic and Muscle Car Meet.

Hosted by the Tahoe Legion Car Club and is another way to enjoy the lake while meeting other like-minded car people.

• Saturday evening at 5 p.m. the annual drawing party for the VCGP will be held at the Red Dog Saloon in Virginia City. Riders that pre-entered will find out where they’ll start for this Comstock classic race.

RACING (REGIONAL):

  • The local Old Timers Motorcycle club will be hosting one of its national series rounds in early April. This weekend they have two days of practice at the Fernley Motocross Track.

Practice is open to OT members from all chapters but a rider needs to bring their membership card to sign up. Times are from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and it’s a good time to tune up for the nationals.

•     The scheduled Play Day at Rattlesnake Raceway scheduled for March 30 has been canceled. With some luck the track will open its season on Saturday, April 6 with a 6 p.m. start time to racing.

Diamond Mountain Raceway in Susanville, California, from noon to 6 p.m. has a play day scheduled for Saturday, March 30. Currently it’s still a go.

•     South of Fallon at Top Gun Dragstrip from 10 until 4 p.m. is having the season’s first test and tune session.

•     Here is the poster for three series racing in Northern Nevada. It’s for the I-80 Challenge, Northern Nevada Wing Sprints and the 95A Sprint Car Championship.

  • Over the hill in Northern California all three REP racing tracks are closed through Thursday. One needs to call the hotline at 775-265-7223 for updates starting on Friday.

Prairie City is going to be open for racing. On Friday gates will be open from 4 until 9 p.m. for camping.

Saturday gates open at 7 a.m. with practice starting shortly after that. Sunday is race day with gates opening at 6:30 a.m., practice starting at 8 a.m. with racing to follow.

At this posting there was no word on MMX so it is suggested calling their hot line at 530-419-5200 before heading out.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

  • Now Racing Preview now swings over to TV Land and a brief visit to the Internet.

•     As usual Friday is a bit slim but at 2 p.m. NBC Sports has NASCAR America followed at 3 p.m. on Fox Sports 1 with NASCAR Race Hub.

Over on www.mavtv.com there should be a slew of reruns as well as other races on www.youtube.com.

•     Friday’s action is on Fox Sports 1 starting at noon with NASCAR Cup practice from Texas followed by Xfinity practice then qualifying for the Gander Outdoors Truck Series. At 4:30 p.m. the network airs NASCAR Cup qualifying followed at 6 p.m. with the Gander Outdoors Truck race.

•    There are some practice sessions on Friday and at 10 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Xfinity race from Texas. Not too far from there at 5 p.m. the latest round of the AMA Supercross series will be in Houston.

  • Switching to the Internet over on www.fanschoice.tv starting t 11 a.m. they have a GNCC event from Morganton, North Carolina. Following that at 11:44 there is a race at South Boston Speedway.

Later at 4 p.m. its opening night for Langely Speedway followed at 7 p.m. by a K&N Pro West race from Irwindale.

Formula 1

•     Sunday has an 8:05 a.m. start as ESPN 2 airs the Formula One race from Bahrain for the series first visit to the Middle East this season.

Then at 10 a.m. Fanschoice.tv has another GNCC event from Morganton. Finally at noon FOX airs the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from Texas.

Over on CBS Sports at 11 a.m. they have to FIM Motocross races starting with the MXGP followed by the MX2 event. Later at 1:30 p.m. NBC Sports has American Flat Track racing.

That’s it for this week. Since there is a big amount of events going on do try and get out to one of them.
