RACING PREVIEW: AUGUST 8 TO 11

RENO, NV (Aug. 7) – This week’s Racing Preview is full of the biggest car week in our area as Hot August Nights is in full swing. Not to be left out there is also plenty of racing both live, on TV and streaming on the Internet to enjoy.

CAR SHOWS & MEETS:

• Hot August Nights, the biggest show in town is rolling in Reno and Sparks. For the full event schedule please check their website at www.hotaugustnights.net.

There have been some changes and this year, due to space limitations, the drifting and autocross have been canceled but the drag races and burnouts at the Sparks Nugget, from 6 p.m. until midnight is still on.

The streets; and some casino parking lots will be full of cars for Hot August Nights. Like these at the Atlantis Casino.

Another special event is the Women With Wheels show on Thursday from 9 until 4 p.m. at the Grand Sierra. Two cars are going to be awarded to a female veteran and another person fighting breast cancer.

There are many show ‘n shines, free entertainment as well as a swap meet at the Livestock Events Center while over at the Reno/Sparks Convention Center the Motorsports Auction Group will auctioning cars.

One highlight to every evening are the controlled cruises in downtown Reno and Sparks.

From Thursday through Saturday evenings there are controlled cruises in downtown Reno and Sparks. Times are from 7 until 10 p.m. and Saturday’s cruise in Reno ends with a fireworks show.

• On Sunday at 9 a.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings, by the Sparks Target store, Sparks Cars and Coffee hosts its monthly car meet. The cars run from exotic to ordinary and it’s a easy going affair.

Hot August Nights ends on Sunday with its annual parade starting at 10 a.m. in downtown Reno. After that everyone heads home and things relax a bit.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• East of downtown Fallon Rattlesnake Raceway is hosting another of its points races starting about 6 p.m. Saturday. Rounding out the show will be kids rides during intermission and mud drags.

To the north Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville hosts its next to last race of the season starting around 6 p.m. on Saturday.

• Over the hill in Northern California the four motocross tracks will have practice sessions.

+ MMX Racing – Practice 9 to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

+ E Street MX Park – Practice 9 to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

+ Prairie City – Practice 9 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

+ River Front – Practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday. Saturday is an Old Timer ride day from 9 until 2 p.m. then that same times for Sunday’s open practice.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Now Racing Preview swings over to TV Land and the Internet for what a fan can watch.

• Thursday is slim but at 2 p.m. NBC Sports has NASCAR American then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.

Switching over to www.fanschoice.tv the American Flat Track race from the Black Hills Half Mile will be streamed with a 1 p.m. start time.

• Friday begins at 9:30 a.m. when NBC Sports has NASCAR Cup practice from Michigan followed on the NBC Sports App with Xfinity practice from Mid-Ohio.

Then at 2 p.m. on NBC Sports the NASCAR Cup teams qualify at Michigan.

Back over to the Internet as at 4:45 p.m. Fanschoice streams the “Night Before The Mile,” from Lodi Cycle Bowl.

• Saturday is another busy day as Fox Sports 2 gets things rolling at 6:30 a.m. with Gander Outdoor Trucks qualifying at Michigan then at 8:40 a.m. NBC Sports App has the Xfinity series qualifying from Mid Ohio.

For you two wheel fans NBC Sports at 10 a.m. has the Buffalo Chip TT from the Black hills.

Then at 10 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Gander Truck race from Michigan. After that NBC Sports airs the Xfinity race at noon from Mid Ohio.

Switching back to motorcycles this week’s Lucas Oil Pro Motocross race is from Unadilla. If you don’t have NBC Sports Gold then some channel switching is needed.

MAVTV has the first 125 moto at 10 a.m. followed at 11 a.m. by the first 450 moto. Over on NBC, yes the network, the second 450 moto will be shown at 1 p.m. while the second 250 moto is aired at 3 p.m. on NBC Sports.

This weekend MotoAmerica is at Sonoma Raceway and race #1 is at 6 p.m. on Fox Sports 2.

Switching back to www.fanschoice.tv at 12:30 p.m. they stream the American Flat Track race from the Sacramento Mile. The mile race is a fan favorite and is sure to be action packed.

After that event the network will stream several short track events starting with the Berlin Raceway.

• Things slow down a bit on Sunday as NBC Sports, at noon, broadcasts the NASCAR Cup Race from Michigan. At that same time CBS Sports has a DTM (German Touring Car) event from the classic road course at Brands Hatch, England.

Finally at 6 p.m. Fox Sports 2 broadcasts the MotoAmerica race #2 from Sonoma.

OTHER RACING NEWS:

• Teresa’s Garage Radio Show is back in the studio from 2 until 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Once again the show covers all things automotive and should recap the two people that were awarded cars at the Women With Wheels show at the GSR Thursday.
