RACING PREVIEW: SEPTEMBER 26 TO 29

RENO, NV (Sept. 25) — As fall begins and racing slows down we end this month with a flurry of events both regional and national with international ones as well. Just hope our weather holds for the weekend.

SHOW N’ SHINES/CRUISES:

• The biggest event in our area actually began on Wednesday with the Street Vibrations Fall Rally. There are events all over the area but downtown Reno has a bunch of displays and one can see many motorcycles as well as clothing and accessories there.

• Since this is the last Friday of the month the Carson Mall has another of its Final Friday Cruises. Things get going at 5:30 p.m. and once again proceeds will go for a local charity.

• There is a Show N’ Shine in Fernley from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. It’s the 25th annual Silverado Classic at the Silverado Casino. Proceeds to go the Nevada Veteran’s Coalition. Once again hope the weather holds out for this one.

RACING (REGIONAL):

Summit Raceway poster for its season ending two-day show.

•The weekend begins east at the Summit Raceway in Elko as the track ends its season with a Friday/Saturday show. Racing begins at 6:30 p.m. each night and featured will be the final round of the I-80 Challenge.

• Fernley 95A Speedway is ending its regular season Saturday night starting at 6 p.m. In addition to the usual classes it’s the final race for the Nevada Pro Stock Association and hopefully they’ll have a good car count.

• Another track ending its season is Battle Mountain Raceway. This is a Sunday show with a 1 p.m. start to the racing.

• The Northern Nevada Kart Club ends its regular season, starting around 9 a.m. at Desert Park Raceway. Once again championships that aren’t settled will be that afternoon. The track is a quarter mile on the dirt extension of Lemmon Valley Drive.

• Now we switch to the Two-wheeled world. Battle Born MX will be in Carlin this weekend. Saturday practice is from 9 until 2 p.m. with Sunday racing beginning around 9 a.m.

• The Northern California motocross tracks have a varied schedule this weekend.

+ MMX in Marysville his hosting an AMA District 36 European Scrambles. Starting time on Saturday is 8:30 a.m. with a 8 a.m. start to Sunday’s racing.

+ E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

+ Riverfront MX Park has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

+ Prairie City will start using the Arenacross Track and a flyer has been posted. This Thursday is the last time practice will be 9 until 2 p.m. as in October these sessions will be later. Saturday is for the Sierra Over The Hill Gang and that session runs from 9 until 2 p.m. then on Sunday it’s open practice at the same times.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Off we go to TV land. As usual Thursday is full of reruns but at 2 p.m. NBC Sports has NASCAR America followed at 3 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.

• Friday begins on NBC Sports with NASCAR Cup practice on the Roval at Charlotte. In this race they’ll turn right as well as left on an infield road course.

Then at Noon the network has Xfinity practice followed at 1:30 with NASCAR Cup qualifying.

At 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Friday Nitro from the Midwest Nationals.

• Saturday has an early 4:55 a.m. start as beIN Sports has race #1 for the Superbike World Championships from Magny-Cours, France. At that same time ESPN 2 has Formula 1 qualifying from Russia.

Later in the morning at 9:30 a.m. NBC Sports has Xfinity qualifying then at 12:30 p.m. airs the race.

• Over on the Internet www.fanschoice.tv has an American Flat Track race beginning at 9 a.m. from the Meadowlands Mile then at 1 p.m. begins a series of weekly races starting at Langley Speedway.

• ESPN 2 gets Sunday rolling at 3:30 a.m. as it airs the Formula 1 race from Russia.

Over on beIN Sports there are two more Superbike races with race #2 starting at 4:55 a.m. and race #3 shown on a delayed basis at 6 p.m.

Later in the morning at 11 a.m. the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race begins on the Roval at Charlotte. It not only used much of the oval but drivers will have to negotiate a tight road course in the middle of the track.

Then at 10 a.m. Fox Sports 1 broadcasts NHRA Sunday live followed at 11 a.m with the NHRA Mid West Nationals from St. Louis. As the count down to Pomona gets closer each race is critical to those wanting to earn a class championship.

Switching back over to Fans Choice they stream a NASCAR Whelan Modified Tour race, the NAPA 500 from Stafford Motor Speedway.

That’s it for this weekend. If he weather cooperates be sure to get out and attend a race live. There is nothing like it as you can see all the color, speed and excitement of motor sports first hand.
