RACING PREVIEW: OCT. 17 TO 20

RENO, NV (Oct 16) – While racing season is winding down there still are events to attend as well as others to watch on TV and the Internet.

CAR MEETS:

• The Classic Chevy’s Swap Meet is from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at Baldini’s Casino in Sparks. Even if one doesn’t have parts to swap should be a good show.

• Reno Sparks and Coffee is having another Show N’ Shine Sunday at the Classic Rock Coffee shop. The meet starts at 10 a.m. and the shop is by the tire store at Mae Anne Avenue and McCarran

• For those that ride dirt bikes Reno Area Dirt Riders are having a meeting on Thursday, October 25 at Pizza Plus in Sparks. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and anyone interested are welcome.

The group not only is working on bike riders having a say at meetings that discuss land use but they also offer rides where a person is in a group and not alone.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• Saturday and Sunday Motion Pro has the Donner Hare Scramble presented by MOJO. It’s an AMA District 36 event that provides two days of action as riders tackle the rocky course.

Saturday is also when the Nitto Tire Ultra 4 National Championship race at Wild West Motorsport Park happens. Gates open at 7 a.m. with racing beginning at 11:30 then all the classes get their turn at a very technical course.

The 4400 main begins at 4 p.m. with awards starting at 5. It’s a full day of some wild racing over rocks the hilly course and of course some high speed sections.

• On Sunday, starting around 9 a.m. the Old Timers Motorcycle Club hosts the next round of the Battle Born MX series. Location is once again at the Sand Box, or Fernley MX track.

Once again the weather should be great although just a bit cooler.

• The practice schedule for the Northern California Motocross tracks is:

      + MMX has practice, including he sand and kid’s course from 9 until 2 p.m.  Saturday. Sunday is an OSMX ride day from 9 until 3 p.m. and the Main as well as the sand track are for open practice.

      + Unfortunately REP racing didn’t have it weekly update when this preview was posted. So the best advice is to check their hotline at 775-265-7223.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Now we swing over to TV Land as on Thursday NBC Sports, at 2 p.m. airs NASCAR America followed at 3 p.m. over on Fox Sports 1 with NASCAR Race Hub.

• Friday gets rolling at noon when NBC Sports has Xfinity practice from Kansas followed at 1 p.m. with NASCAR Cup practice. Then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Friday Night Nitro and at 5:30 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has the ARCA race from Kansas.

• Saturday gets going at 10:30 a.m. when NBC Sports has NASCAR Cup qualifying from Kansas followed at noon with the Xfinity race.

Fox Sports 1 at 4:30 p.m. has Saturday Nitro live from Dallas. Then at 7 p.m. NBC Sports has this year’s AMA Supercross Monster Energy Cup event from Las Vegas, where all the stars race for a huge purse.

Switching to the Internet www.fanschoice.tv at 10 a.m. has the Fall of Destruction races from Langley Speedway. Then at 4:30 p.m. the network streams the Battle Back Wild Card Race from Myrtle Beach.

• Back to TV Land as there are two major events this Sunday.

At 11 a.m. Fox Sports 2 will broadcast the NHRA Fall Nationals from Dallas, Texas. It’s another critical race for those chasing a championship.

Then, also at 11 a.m., NBC broadcasts the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup event from Kansas. Once again very important for those drivers trying to make the final four that race for the championship in their season ending race.

Not to be left out CBS Sports has a line up on Sunday as well. At 10 a.m. there are two Formula Drift shows followed at 11 by a pair of World of Outlaw races.

Then at noon they’ll show the Blancpain GT World Challenge America Grand Fanale followed at 2 p.m. by Power Boat Racing.

That’s about it for this weekend. Hope you’ll get out and see one of the races live as there is nothing like it.
