RACING PREVIEW: NOV. 14 TO 17

RENO, NV (Nov. 13) – Racing Preview highlights four major series that have their season ending events this weekend. Should be good shows but there is still some things going on here and over in Northern California.

CAR MEETS:

Reno Cars & Coffee has a meet this Sunday at Classic Rock Coffee Shop.

• This Sunday Reno Cars & Coffee will meet from 10 a.m. until noon at Classic Rock Coffee. It’s located at 5150 MaeAnne, next to the tire store. If you are a car person it’s a great chance to see some fine machines.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• Even though racing in this area has ended for the year there is a huge race at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas. It’s the 22nd Annual IMCA Duel in the Desert.

Thursday and Friday are full of heat races and B mains as the fields are being set. Then Saturday is the money day with at least one LCQ before the mains begin to see which driver will emerge as the top dogs.

Over the hill in Northern California there is also plenty of action for the two-wheel set. Here are the schedules for the four motocross tracks closest to Reno.

+ MMX has practice sessions from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

+ E Street MX park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

+ Riverfront has practice from 4 until 9 p.m. Thursday then 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

+ The Arenacross track at Prairie City is the site for round 2 of the Fall Features series.

Gates open at 7 a.m. Saturday then from 9 until 2 p.m. there is practice sessions. On Sunday gates open at 7 a.m., practice begins at 9 a.m. with racing to follow.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• This is a huge weekend as four major series end their seasons.

• Thursday gets going at 2 p.m. when NBC Sports airs NASCAR America. An hour later Fox Sports 1 at 3 p.m. broadcasts NASCAR Race Hub.

During the season NASCAR drivers work to get seeded in the Chase then in the fall they race to be included in the “final four,” going into the season ending race. In each series final event at Homestead-Miami whomever finishes ahead of the other three wins the title, even if they don’t win the race.

• Friday gets rolling at 11:30 a.m. when NBC Sports first has Xfinity practice followed by NASCAR Cup practice from Homestead. Then at 4:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Gander Outdoors Truck Series championship race.

The four truck drivers going for the title are Ross Chastin, Matt Crafton, Stewart Friesen and Brett Moffitt.

That same afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Fox Sports has NHRA Friday Night Nitro from Pomona.

Switching over to the Internet www.motortrendondemand.com at 11:55 a.m. has qualifying for the 24 Hour series at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) outside of Austin Texas. Then at 3:55 p.m. there is night practice.

• Saturday gets going at 9 a.m. over on the Internet when Motor Trend on Demand has part 1 of the 24-hour race from COTA.

Then at 12:30 p.m. NBC Sports broadcasts the Xfinity series even from Homestead. The four drivers racing for that championship are Christopher Bell, Justin Aligaler, Cole Coster and Tyler Reddick.

Back to the Internet at 5 p.m. when www.fanschoice.tv airs the Myrtle Beach 400 and Festival.

• Sunday starts early, 5:30 a.m. as Motor Trend on Demand airs part 2 of the 24 Hour Series race from COTA.

Then at 9:05 a.m. ESPN 2 airs the Formula 1 race from Brazil. Although the world championship has been settled other drivers are racing for the remaining top spots. Each position is worth millions of dollars for the teams when the season ends.

Over on NBC and NBC Sports at 11:30 a.m. the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race will get rolling at Homestead. At stake is the series championship. The four drivers going for that title are Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr. and last week’s winner Denny Hamlin.

Then at noon on Fox Sports 1 it’s the NHRA Sunday Live show. This is followed at 1 p.m. with the finals from the Auto Club Finals at Pomona. It’s the end of the Count Down and this year’s class champions will be crowned after the final run has ended.

That’s it for this weekend. Next week we begin to slide into the annual trip through the Re-Run Zone but take heart, Supercross begins right after the New Year.
