AWARDS BANQUET FOR BBMX

VERDI, NV (Dec. 11) – The Boomtown Casino and Hotel was the site of the BBMX this year’s awards banquet. Area motocross racers assembled for a nice buffet style dinner, receive trophies and maybe score in a raffle for those that competed last season.

A Long line of trophies were going to be awarded at the banquet.

The MC for the night was Dana Losey, who started by acknowledging the series sponsors. Carson Motorsports (CMS) will again be the title sponsor while others are Big Valley Honda, Moto-Source, Testa Motorsports, NMS, Reno Motorsports (RMS)and One 11 Concepts.

Then he thanked the promoters for their hard work on putting on the races during the season.

One visiting promoter was Zeb Armstrong, who runs three tracks in Northern California. He expressed his wish to finding a way his tracks and BBMX might be able to work together this year.

Before the awards Losey said that 16 riders made all the races last year.

First up to be given trophies were the youngest riders in 50cc Beginner. Sean Panora (Middle) was the champion followed by Parker Geissinger and Gavin Clark.

As usual the awards began with the youngest riders, the 50cc Beginners where Sean Panora was the champion of that class. Other Pee Wee winners were Wyatt Berrington in Junior and Gaven Giomi, who won in Intermediate and the Open class.

The Intermediate race was close as Giomi only won by 16 points over runner up Jaiden Roberts.

Each class winner received not only a trophy but a jacket as well.

Topping the 65 Beginner class was Jevin Hubbard. He’s flanked by Jae Conner and Hadleigh Kahabka.

Next up was the 65cc class where young riders are on bikes that require shifting as well as having more speed than the 50cc bikes.

Jevin Hubbard won the Beginner Class and Rowdy Richardson was the Open winner. The Intermediate class was a duel between two cousins and champion Pierson Potratz only won by a scant three points over Hudson Losey.

The next step in size and speed are the 85CC bikes. This graduating from this class puts a rider in the big bike group.

Nathan Riippi won the beginner class while the junior champion was Declan Kahabka.

The only triple champion for the 2019 season was Chase Cannizzaro shown here with the runner up in 85cc Intermediate Rogen Hill. Both boys ended the season just nine points apart.

The only triple champion was Chase Cannizzaro, who scored in Intermediate, Open and Supermini. However Rogen Hill gave him a run for his money in the Intermediate class and ended only nine points behind Cannizzaro.

Seth Clark scored two championships in 125/250 Beginner where he just beat runner up Tsiidopi Minder by three points. Clark also scored the champion’s trophy and jacket when he topped the 250/450 Beginner class.

Another double winner was Demetre Proutsos as he claimed championships in the 125/250 Junior class as well as in Schoolboy.

The Women’s “A” title was a family duel as Shami Potratz took the title with her niece Hayden Losey in second as she replaced her injured mother.

Women’s “B” winners are Claire Petrie, Jennifer Leppek and Hadleigh Kahabka.

Claire Petrie was the Women’s “B” champion followed by Jennifer Leppek and Hadleigh Kahabka.

The final trophies went to the 50+ Junior class. Troy Decker was the champion but runner up Bobby Heeb wasn’t able to attend. This class had a tie in points for third so both Kendall Larsen and Pat Fye received third place trophies.

The final trophies went to those at the top of the age ladder, the 50+ Juniors. Troy Decker was the champion and due to a tie both Kendall Larsen and Pat Fye got third place. Second place Bobby Heeb was unable to attend the banquet.

Riders that competed in the series were given raffle tickets and all during the night various prizes were handed out. For some of the youngsters they could chose between the prize or a toy, which several of them chose.

At the end of the evening there was one final prize and people bought those tickets to see if they might win a pit bike. In the end Sabrina Gentner won the big prize.

As the evening ended BBMX President Shami Potratz was asked about the organization and season just past.

BBMX President Shami Potratz was pleased with this past season and looks forward to this year’s season.

“I was the one that started it BBMX and got my family in there to help me,” she said. “We just really wanted to keep motocross going in the Northern Nevada area.

“Last season went great, you know we’ve had growth every year and that’s what we’re looking for. We have people out there moving into the area it’s lots of good racing and good times.”

There is also a new track or tracks actually being developed by the new owner of Fernley 95A Speedway.

“We are so excited about that any new tracks around the area is awesome,” she said. “We’re looking forward to that, it’s supposed to be open in March and that’s for practices. We’ll give them time and hopefully they’ll be part of our series.”

While the 2020 schedule hasn’t been released yet so riders have time to get prepared and riding is part of that. Then in the spring the starting gate will drop again signaling the start of a new season.
