RACING PREVIEW: JANUARY 16 TO 19

RENO, NV (Jan. 15) – Racing Preview for this weekend has a pair of car meets, an important meeting for local racers and other events. Thankfully the weather should be pretty mild for the weekend.

CAR MEETS:

• Things get going Sunday at 10 a.m. on the west side of town by the intersection of McCarran and Mae Anne. Reno Cars & Coffee will host the event at Classic Rock Coffee and lately there have been some huge turnouts for these meets.

• Later that day at 1 p.m. a new group, Cars & Pizza will have a meet and eat at the Blind Onion Pizza place. The location is at 295 Los Altos Parkway in Sparks.

Two great opportunities to meet other car people or just enjoy seeing everything from ordinary to exotic machines.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

• The race track in Fernley  has a new name, 95 Motor Sports Complex, as well as a new owner.

The meeting scheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 will be at the track. Pizza will be available and one of the hamburger vendors will also be there. It’s a chance to meet the new owner and find out what is planned not only for the oval but the new motocross track as well.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• No racing in our immediate area but over the hill, in Northern California all four motocross track will probably be closed Thursday due to the expected rains. This weekend though they do have sessions scheduled.

+ MMX Racing: Practice from9 until 2 p.m. Saturday then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday. The main, sand and kids tracks will be open.

+ E Street Motocross Park: Practice from 9 until 2 p.m.  Sunday.

+ River Front: Practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

+ Prairie City: Practice, even though there is an off-road event from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Always best to check first before heading out.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• On the other side of the world, in Saudi Arabia the Dakar Rally is going full blast through Friday. Right now an American is leading one of the classes.

+ On Thursday NBC Sports starting at 3 p.m. has a recap of stages 10 and 11.

+ Back to the Re-Run Zone as www.mavtv.com has a series of events from last year it will be showing. Things begin at noon with the Summer Shoot Out and go to 5 p.m. with Madera Racing.

• Friday is when NBC Sports has a Dakar Rally marathon beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 3:30 p.m. with a series of half-hour recaps from each stage.

• Saturday is when a couple of events happen and they will be live rather than in the Re-Run Zone.

Fox Sports 2 gets things rolling at 11:30 with Formula E qualifying from Santiago, Chili followed by the race at 1:30 p.m.

Over on mavtv things begin with reruns from the Chili Bowl Nationals. Then at 3:30 the action goes live as the network airs the Tulsa Shootouts from the indoor track at Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Finally the big show, the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals begins at 5:30 p.m. It’s always a wild show as midget drivers race for the win.

Down in Southern California riders competing in round 2 of the Supercross series will start practicing the qualifying for the night show. Then at 7 p.m. NBC Sports and NBC Gold, which shows the practice and qualifying sessions, will broadcast the night show beginning at 7 p.m.

• Sunday gets rolling early on Mavtv then at noon they air a series of events from last season. Then at 3 p.m. the network re-broadcasts this year’s Chili Bowl Nationals.

Over on CBS Sports they only have one event at 3:30 p.m. and that is a World of Outlaws race from last year.
