RENO, NV (Jan. 22) – This week’s Racing Preview has great news for the motocross crowd. Yes we are emerging from the Re-Run Zone and into the daylight of racing seasons beginning.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:
• This weekend 95 Motor Sports Complex, the former 95A Speedway, is opening it’s new motocross track they’ve been working on for the past few months.
For both Saturday and Sunday riding will be from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. with registration beginning at 7 a.m. each day. Practice will be divided up based on rider turn out and there should be a food truck out there that will serve breakfast.
If all goes well one won’t have to go over the hill and can take advantage of the lower fuel prices in Fernley.
CAR MEETS:
• This is the weekend Carson Cars & Coffee should have their monthly get together. Usually starts around 10 a.m. by the Dutch Coffee at the south end of Carson City.
MX PRACTICE:
• All four motocross tracks might have practice sessions this weekend however the incoming storm with rain could change things. Right now MMX is slated for practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday.
However it is best to call the MMX hotline at 1-530-419-5200 before heading out.
The race at Prairie City AX track has been canceled due to it being flooded. As far as PC, Riverfront and E Street go that will depend on the weather. With some luck there should be an update Thursday but best bet is to call the hotline at 1-775-265-7223.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Down south at Parker, Arizona the Best in the Desert is having the second race of its season; The Blue Water Parker 425 for the trucks and cars.
Thursday is for tech, mandatory meetings and a social hour. Friday is race day, staging at 5:45 a.m. followed by a parade out of town to the course and the green flag waves at 7:15.
On Sunday at 9 a.m. awards will be presented at Blue Water Resort and Casino.
• This weekend is when the IMCA Weathertech Sports Car championship starts with the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. Qualifying begins Thursday at 1:05 p.m. and can be seen on www.imsa.tv.
Switching over to www.mavtv.com there is a whole bunch or replays of events from last year. It really gets going at noon with Summer Shootout 2019 and proceeds from there.
• As usually Friday is pretty slim pickings. Mavtv has a bunch of features on shops that do custom work. A good place to check for events is www.speedshifttv.com or on www.youtube.com, which has replays of last week’s Chili Bowl.
One might also want to check on imsa.tv as they might be showing some of the prelims leading up to the Rolex 24 Hour race.
• Saturday is a busy day and things get going on NBC at 10:30 as they show the start of the Weathertech Sports Car Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. It’s a twice-around-the-clock endurance race and at 11:30 the action switches to NBC Sports.
Over on NBC Gold there is coverage of this week’s Monster Energy AMA Supercross race from Glendale, Arizona. While the night show begins at 6 p.m. they also the practice and qualifying earlier.
• Sunday continues coverage of the Rolex 24 on NBC Sports then at 9 a.m. it switches to NBC as the network broadcasts the final 90 minutes of the race and finish celebrations. Then at 11 a.m. the networks repeats the previous night’s Supercross show.
Earlier Sunday CBS Sports at 8 a.m. has Snowcross then at 2 p.m. NBC Sports has a marathon from the Mecum Motorcycle Auction.
That’s it for this preview but if you ride a dirt bike you might want to get over to 95 Motorsport Complex and test out their new motocross track. Monday’s article is about the Tuesday meeting concerning the oval track with an interview with one of the partners.

Coming out of the B main, where he was second, Kunkel ended up 17th out of 22 riders in the main.
