RACING PREVIEW: FEB. 13 TO 16

RENO, NV (Feb. 12) – Well this week racing returns to our region so the Racing Preview is full of events, here and around the world. It might be winter still but spring is only a few weeks away.

CAR MEETS:

• Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. Reno Cars and Coffee will host its next meet at Classic Rock Coffee close to the intersection of MaeAnne and McCarran. These meets are still growing and have a mix of exotic to not so exotic cars.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• The Trail Blazers begin MRANN’s desert racing year with the “Wash”ington 100, the 24th annual Hare and Hound race. The location is about 12 miles north of the Nightingale exit on I-80 east of Fernley.

Saturday begins at 10 a.m. with the Pee Wees followed by the Minii Bikes, V Women and Bombers running a short course. Then at 10 a.m. Sunday it’s time for the Big Bikes as they run two loops that are over 45 miles in length. To be classed as a finisher a rider must complete the first lap.

• For the Motocross crowd 95 Motor Sports Complex will have it’s new track open for practice all three days of this holiday weekend. Hours are 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and the weather should be great for this weekend.

• For those going over the hill for practice the Northern California MX track practice schedules are as follows:

     + MMX Racing will have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday.

     + E Street from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

     + Riverfront has practice Thursday from 4 until 9 p.m. then 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

     + Prairie City has Thursday practice from noon to 5 p.m. with Friday being a ride day for Sierra Old Times from 9 until 2 p.m. while Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. is open practice.

     Sunday is a Loretta Lynn warm up race with gates  opening at 7 a.m. as practice begins at 9 a.m. with racing to follow.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL)

• Speed weeks at Daytona International Speedway are well under way as NASCAR begins its season

Fox 2 begins Thursday with Daytona 500 Media day at 8 am. then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Raceday followed at 4 p.m. by the Duels.

For those that don’t know qualifying for the Daytona 500 only sets the front row. All the other entries have to race in the Duels to lock their starting position.

• Friday begins at 7:35 a.m. when www.motortrendondemand.com airs qualifying for the Asia Le Mans series from Sepang.

Back her in the U.S. Fox Sports 1 at noon has qualifying for the truck series then at 4:30 broads the Gander Outdoors Truck Series race from Daytona.

• Saturday gets rolling early at 12:30 a.m. when Motor Trend on Demand airs the Asia Le Mans Seris 4 hours of Sepang.

Then at 8 a.m. Fox Sports has Xfinity qualifying then airs the race at 11:30 a.m. from Daytona. Over on Fox Sports 2 they have the Formula E race from Mexico City.

Then at 4 p.m. NBC Sports has the AMA Supercross race from Tampa, Florida. Of course is one has NBC Gold they get the full set of programs without commercials.

• Sunday at 8 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Day while at that same time CBS Sports has Amsoil Championship Snowmobile racing.

Finally at 11:30 a.m. Fox airs the Great American Race, the 2020 edition of the Daytona 500 on the high banks. Always a good sign that spring is near and race fans can start seeing their favorite stars in competition again.
