RENO, NV (March 25) – Once again Racing Preview is full of some things, cancellations, postponments and eRacing news. It’s a crazy time for all of us.
CAR MEETS & THINGS:
• There are two very different events happening this Saturday and remember that social distancing thing as well as being respectful to others.
• Starting at 10 a.m. at Mills Park in Carson City is the 2nd Annual 775 Mustang meet and cruise. It’s a good way to see various Mustangs then cruise and enjoy the spring weather afterwards.
• North of Reno at the Chickdee Pits is the 2020 Mud Fest. Things kick off at 1 p.m. and that should be a crazy and muddy event.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• The annual preseason car show in Fallon that starts the season for Rattlesnake Raceway has been cancelled. The schedule first race of the season that was supposed to happen Saturday evening has also been cancelled.
• On Tuesday Lovelock Speedway announced their events would be cancelled until things change with regard to the current crises.
• South of Fallon the scheduled Test and Tune at Top Gun Dragstrip has also been canceled.
• MOTORCYCLE EVENTS (REGIONAL):
• The RAD rodeo scheduled for this weekend out at Chickadee has been postponed until a later date. Should be a fun event when it happens.
• As announced last week the Number picking part for the 49th annual VCGP has been canceled. Currently the VCGP has been postponed as the club is looking for a later date.
• Over the hill Northern California Motocross tracks have a practice schedule. Since things are changing on an almost daily basis be sure to call ahead before leaving.
• Here are the schedules:
+ MMX Racing (Hotline 530-419-5200) has the Main, Sand and Kids tracks open. Saturday’s practice session is from 9 until 2 p.m. then from 9 until 3 p.m. on Sunday.
+ E Street MX Park, practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
+ Riverfront has practice Thursday from 4 until 9 p.m. then Saturday is for the Sierra Old Timers from 9 until 2 p.m. followed by open practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.
+ Prairie City has practice Thursday from 1 until 6 p.m. then practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• One big news is the cancellation of the remainder of this year’s AMA Supercross season. However FELD announced they are working on securing dates for the last seven events left on this year’s schedule. They will probably happen, if dates and venues can be secured,after the Outdoor National series.
• This year Hangtown, slated for early May will not happen. The first Outdoor National race is on June 13 in Florida. Of course that assumes the virus situation is under control by then.
• With the NHL and NBA season on ice there are large holes in the schedules for the networks. Filling those holes both NASCAR and Formula 1 are using virtual races.
Showing how far this has come drivers sit in simulators and race each other on a virtual track in real time no less. So far it seems to be a success.
NASCAR, iRacing and Fox Sports have partnered to broadcast the NASCAR Pro Invitational Series. This Sunday the race from Texas, starting at 10 a.m. PDT, will be shown on Fox Sports 1 and Fox where available.
The Homestead-Miami Speedway event had the highest ever rating, almost a million viewers, for an eSport event.
If you miss these races they are shown either in highlight form or the full event on You Tube after they were shown live.
Another series starting to use the eRacing format now is the World of Outlaws. They had an event Wednesday so that’s another series having virtual races.
