SOCIAL DISTANCING WITH DIRT BIKES

LEMMON VALLEY, NV (March 28) – In these unusual times one-way people can protect themselves is to exercise Social Distancing. That means is to keeping a space between two people and one group, area dirt riders, are doing just that.

On Saturday this reporter went out to Lemmon Valley out at Chickadee where I met three riders taking advantage of the nice weather. They were all practicing social distancing as no one parked close to each other and of course when they were riding social distancing isn’t a problem.

Clinton Jones gets ready enjoy the great weather on his CR450 Honda.

First rider was Clinton Jones and he said, “I bought a new bike, a 2017 CR450 Honda and I’m trying to dial it in. I’ve been riding here since I was 6-year-old, took a break and just got back into it a couple of years ago. I’m a member of RAD (Reno Area Dirt Bike Riders) as I know Mike and Brad.”

Parked a few yards away was Ty Fingan, who rides a 2007 YZ250 Yamaha.

Another rider exercising Social Distancing as well as enjoying riding his dirt bike is Ty Fingan.

“I’ve never really raced it but grew up riding, loved it and it’s a good stress reliever. I’ve ridden here once but mainly ride down in Moon Rocks. I love it, especially when you get a nice rain as the dirt is great and there’s a lot of open area. Very different then California where everything is closed down.”

The other RAD member and MRANN racer is Cory Hansen, who rides a KTM 250CX.

Corey Hansen stands by his KTM 250 that he races in the MRANN series.

“It’s fun training as usually we go up to Moon Rocks, up to the towers and back around. It’s around 32 miles and today it’s pretty nice out.”

This reporter really appreciated the trio of riders I met at Chickadee in Lemmon Valley. I also hope people will continue with the car meets or cruises as participants can space themselves and remain safe. It will also give people some relief from being cooped up and isolated.

REPORTER’S NOTE: This weekend there were two events that could have been held. The one in Carson City slated for Mills Park never happened because no one showed up and the same for Mud Fest 2020. I believe both were canceled.
