RACING PREVIEW: APRIL 16 TO 19

RENO, NV (April 15) – Once again racing is in hiatus but there are still things to watch and the motocross crowd can get in practice sessions.

CAR MEETS:

Cancellation notice for Reno Cars & Coffee

+ This week’s Reno Cars & Coffee meet has been canceled. Hopefully things will be opening up so the next time, on May 3rd, the meet can be held again.

+ There is a cruise planned for Sunday at the Spring Thaw Rally is going to be held. The gathering point is the Safeway in Donner Pass Road in Truckee at 9:30 a.m.

Spring Thaw Rally notice.

People are asked not to congregate so remember the social distancing. The cruise leaves at 10 a.m. as everyone heads to Downieville through Nevada City. After that everyone can take what ever route they want back home.

Weather should be good and it’s a nice time to get out and cruise.

+ On Saturday there is a birthday cruise in Reno. Kena Rocha asked Reno Cars & Coffee if they’d do one for her daughter Brookyn. She turns six but can’t have a birthday party due to the virus lock down.

It’s a great chance to get out cruise as well as making one little girl not only happy but feeling important. The parade begins at 1 p.m. on Lytton Court in Reno.

RACING (REGIONAL):

+ While there is no racing in our area, hopefully that will start up again in May the motocross crowd can still get in practice sessions over the hill in Northern California.

+ MMX will have sessions but they have some rules those attending must follow. Again social distancing is asked for.

Rules for MMX practice sessions.

Thursday practice is from 2 until 7 p.m. on the sand and kid’s tracks.

Friday, from noon until 5 p.m. is on the main, sand and kid’s tracks.

Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. is one the main, sand and kid’s tracks while Sunday’s session, from 9 until 3 p.m. is on the vintage, main, sand and kid’s tracks.

+ Riverfront will only have 50 riders at a time and one must register online at www.repracingmx.com.

Thursday and Sunday has two sessions with the first going from 8 until 1 p.m. and from 2 until 7 p.m. Friday is for the  minis and again register online and the session runs from 2 until 7 p.m.

Sunday also has the same limits on riders, once again register online and the two sessions are at the same times.

+ E Street MX Park has big bike practice on Friday from 2 until 7 p.m. then for all bikes from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

+ Unfortunately due to crowd restrictions in our state the new motocross track in Fernley at the 95 Motor Sports Complex can’t be used.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

+ SIM Racing using iRACING has been replacing the events we usually see. This has allowed drivers that usually never appear in series to race against the pros on various circuits.

NASCAR Cup driver Chase Elliott sits in his simulator where he competes in the Simracing NASCAR Pro invitational series.

Drivers sit in simulators in their homes or other places and race each other. While it’s not the same the competition is just as fierce and many times entertaining as the usual TV announcers are calling the races.

A good place to find schedules is on www.racer.com as they publish schedules on their eRacning page. Many series most never see are having events for most of the week.

Here is this week’s eRacing schedule.

REPORTERS NOTE: Sorry for the long spacing in this schedule, Word Press kind of extended it. I’ll have it formatted better next week.

For the major ones like NASCAR and Indy Car these events are pulling good numbers of viewers not to mention giving Simracing a huge increase in popularity. Drivers like Dale Earnhardt Jr. even have a chance to try their hand in Indy Car.

Kyle Busch in his simulated NASCAR Cup race car.

If you can’t watch the races live then go to www.youtube.com as they usually hve these racers or highlights after the fact to everyone can enjoy the competition.

This Sunday at 10 a.m. Fox and Fox Sports 1  will carry the next NASCAR Pro Invitational from Richmond. Should be a good race on that short track.

Another option of course is to go back into the Rerun Zone and check out what www.mavtv.com has.

That’s it for this week and hopefully in only a couple of weeks racing will return to our area and the national series will again take to the tracks. Be safe out there.

We now have seven very appreciated sponsors supporting this site. Please patronize them as they not only support your sport but they help nvracingnews continue.

During this time of shutdown and social distancing please patronize our sponsors. It helps them survive this period our uncertainty and in the case of PJ&Co, when they finally open back up please have some meals there. Food is good and you’ll be very appreciated.

Our newest sponsor is G.I.S.L Land Services that, while having a global client base it has a Western U.S.A. Focus. Owner Greg Ekins is a long time off road motorcycle racer competing in the MRANN Series as well as the AMA National Hare and Hound series.

Among the services offers are Surface and Mineral Title Reviews and Cartographic Services. The website is www.gislandservices.com.

Another great sponsor is General Transmission and Power Train Specialists. The shop is located at 2515 Sutro Street in Reno, a few blocks below Hug High School.

Former motorcycle racer Pete Attashian is the owner and they not only service older and newer transmission but now has a section dealing with high performance units including those used for towing.

The phone number is 775-786-5888 and the shop’s website is www.generaltransmissionreno.com.

Last year fantastic race photographer Melissa Coker joined the family of sponsors. If you have raced at Summit in Elko, Battle Mountain, Lovelock, Rattlesnake or Diamond Mountain Speedway she probably has a photograph of your car on the track.

She’s also been at the IMCA Duel in the Desert was well as the Wild West Tour and IMCA Super Nationals in Boone, Iowa. Melissa not only has photos of the cars, and many times drivers, but she can produce hero cards and even a book of from your season.

To see her collections or to place an order please check her website at www.melissasoutonalimb.smugmug.com.

Two of our sponsors are first class motorcycle shops located in Reno.

Our first sponsor is Reno Motorsports (RMS). Not only do they have about anything a rider might want or need and the store also has a full service shop.

Their location is at 964 Terminal Way, by the intersection with Mill Street. Store’s phone number is 775-322-1499 and the site is, www.rms-renomotorsports.com.

The next shop, and our newest sponsor is Moto Source located at 3180 Mill Street. Once again there is a full service shop plus about any thing a rider might need or want.

The phone number is 775-856-3855 and the website is, www.moto-source.com.

The next sponsor is an excellent place if you need collision repair on your car or truck. It’s Concours Body Shop, located at 250 Telegraph Street in Reno and has a long history of first class repairs.

Brian Saul is the owner, a car enthusiast himself and he’s committed to continuing the shop’s reputation of quality work. Phone number is 775-329-4557 and the website is, www.concoursbodyshop.net.

Hungry, want a great place to eat, then try PJ&CO for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and it’s a great place to watch your favorite sports. If you’re a rider, well Wednesday evening is Bike Night, always a great time to see some great looking bikes and meet like-minded people.

The location is 1590 South Wells Avenue, just north of the round about. Phone number is 775-323-6366 and their website is www.pjandco.net.

Unfortunately PJ&Co is closed until things open up again which should be a couple of weeks from now.
