LOOKING AHEAD TO SUMMER RACING

RENO, NV (June 22) – Due to a schedule mix up this week’s article will different. Since were about two weeks away from July, and summer began on Father’s Day, thought I look into the future a bit.

This coming week is going to be a busy one for race fans as well as those wanting to see car meets and cruises.

Poster for the Tuesday night cruise at the South Meadows Steak ‘N Shake.

As far as cruises go things get going Tuesday with the weekly cruise starting at the South Meadows Steak ‘n Shake. Hours are from 5 until 9 p.m. with awards, prizes and cool music.

Looking ahead to Saturday Women With Wheelz car show is in Virginia City by the Sliverland Hotel. Due to social distancing only 60 cars will be on display but they can be all years.

Women With Wheelz car and fashion show announcement.

There is also a retro fashion show as well as a trailer full of retro styles for the ladies. Hours of the show are from 8 until 3 p.m.

Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. is when 775 Mustangs have their June meeting at Lampe Park in Gardnerville. Nice time to meet fellow Mustang owners.

Sparks Cars & Pizza announcement.

Then on Sunday from 2 until 5 p.m. Reno Sparks Cars & Coffee will have a meet at the Blind Onion. The location is off the Pyramid Highway at the south end of Spanish Springs.

Now to racing as two tracks will be in action while others are dark. Sadly American Valley Speedway in Quincy, due to the fair board down there, is dark for this season.

Schedule for Battle Mountain Raceway.

To the east Battle Mountain Raceway has a two-day show that includes Outlaw Karts. On Friday gates open at 5 p.m. with racing starting at 7 p.m. then on Saturday gates open at 10 a.m., karts start racing at noon while at 7 p.m. the cars begin to race.

Up in Susaneville there are also two days of racing at Diamond Mountain Speedway. Friday’s show begins at 6 p.m. while Saturday’s starts at 5 p.m. and the track usually has a pretty good car count.

This weekend Rattlesnake Raceway in Fallon is dark and the schedule for Tonopah Speedway is still pending. At the last notice the oval at 95 Motor Sport Complex is dark until August as they are refurbishing seating in the grandstands.

Practice announcement for Desert Park Raceway.

The Northern Nevada Kart Club has open practice for members and non-members at Desert Park Raceway. It’s best to contact a member first as they have keys to the track. Those attending are limited to only three people including the driver.

This week it’s $5 Saturday at Top Gun Dragstrip.

Saturday, from 6 p.m. until Midnight, Top Gun Dragstrip has $5 Ssturday. It’s a great time to test your racecar or to see how fast your street car will go in the quarter mile. The track is located south of Fallon on Highway 95.

With the cancellations Fireworks shows there are two tracks that will have racing and fireworks. First is Rattlesnake Raceway on Saturday, July 4th. The track is the site of the town’s fireworks display.

Up in Susanville the Diamond Mountain has its second two-day show in as many weeks. Racing Friday night then on 4th of July Saturday with a fireworks show. Should be a good time for fans.

Norcal Rock Racing begins its season at the Wild West Motorsport Park.

Looking a bit further into July Norcal Rock Racing begins its season at Wild West Motor Sports Park on July 10 and 11. It’s a great way to see some wild off-road racing on a short course.

That same weekend Top Gun Dragstrip is back in action. Friday is for testing and tuning then Saturday and Sunday features the track’s ET series as well as Junior Dragsters.

The Northern Nevada Kart Club has two races in July. The first is when the KPX series visits on the weekend of the 19th. This event draws many drivers from Northern California. It usually has the locals defending their turf against the visitors so the racing is intense.

Then on July 26 NNKC has its next club race. Hopefully this time Mother Nature will cooperate and give the racers some good weather.

Lovelock Speedway apparently is only going to have one event this year and that will be the annual Frontier Day races, a two-day show on July 31st and August 1st. Sadly the town canceled its usual festival. The races are Friday and Saturday night and will also be the next round of the I-80 Challenge. Last season it was a night of great racing.

So its kind of a brief look ahead for race fans this Monday. I’ll get more detail and include motorcycles in Thursday’s preview for what is coming this weekend. Be safe out there everyone, be sure to attend some races.
