VARIETY SUNDAY AND THE WEEK AHEAD

RENO, NV (Aug. 2) – The first Sunday in August was full of variety with two very different events. It was also the start of a week full of many cruise and car events happening over the next eight days.

This restored Ford Van was on display at Sunday’s Reno Cars & Coffee meet.

• Reno Cars & Coffee had their first of the month gathering at the Keitzke Starbucks. As usual the turnout was large with a wide variety of cars and one restored Ford Van, vintage VW’s as well as more current models.

One was a gray Ford Mustang and Kayle Totman explained her boy friend’s car.

“This is a 2014 Mustang 5.0 and it’s owned by my boyfriend, we’ve had it for just over four or five years,” she said. “It’s bagged, it has the nice wheels the Roman got put on their and the wrap is through Sign Crafters here in Reno.”

Kyla Totman stands by her boyfriend’s Mustang 5.0 that is wrapped and bagged.

She added that “bagged,” means the car, which is lowered has air suspension to the ride height can be changed.

“It has a Boss 302 engine.”

Moving through the rows of cars was a modified Camaro with swing doors that was up from California and is owned by Mark Hamblett from Livermore, California.

“A few of us came out for a cruise we had with the Northern Nevada Camaros,” he said. “Started out stock, a 2010, and I started  putting  different parts here and there and it just kept going, kept going, one thing led to another. Matter of fact next week I’m taking it in the whole interior is going to get done in green and purple. I’ve really not done much just dressing wise that’s about it nothing high performance or anything.”

The added the car isn’t wrapped but all paint including the graphic of Hulk inside the hood.

Asked about the doors, which swing up, he said, “You can see the car, it’s different, it stands out I’m someone that likes to be different. So I figured the doors looked good. I belong to Swift but we’re also of a Corvette, Camaro Brotherhood out of California and we come and hang out with Northern Nevada Camaros.”

• To the north and earlier in the morning the Reno Area Dirt Riders (RAD) were busy cleaning trail areas past the end of Estates Road in Golden Valley. It’s the second time the club has used grant money to do a project like this.

Mike Marcum stands by one of the 30-yard dumpsters Reno Area Dirt Riders filled cleaning up a trail area off Estates Road in Golden Valley.

Mike Marcum, one of the founders said, “It went really well, we had about 30 volunteers and some locals that stepped up with skip loaders and back hoes. We were able to bring out a couple of RV’s and cars and haul away a couple of 30-yard dumpsters of trash today.

“The next thing probably won’t be until the late fall. We’re going to have some trail days and fun days to say thank you to everybody that helps.”

The club is pretty well done with the Peavine trail maze and going up to pout their signs that were designed by MX Trophies.

For further information on the group please check their Face Book page ot their website at www.renoareadirtriders.com.
