RACING PREVIEW: AUGUST 6 TO 9

RENO, NV (Aug. 5) – Racing Preview for this weekend still has a loaded banquet table for cruises and car show. In addition there is racing in our region, over in California as well as national and international events.

CAR MEETS/CRUISES:

• The weekend gets off to an early start Thursday. The Atlantis Casino begins three days of Hot August Cruise Nights hosted by the Wicked Wayz Car Club. Thursday and Friday nights things start at 5 p.m. while it’s a 4 p.m. start on Saturday.

How August Nights City Cruises resume Thursday down in Carson City.

• Down at the Bully’s in Carson City is the second of the three Unofficial Hot August Nights City Cruises. The festivities on Thursday go from 3 until 7 p.m. and it’s time to cruise Carson Street.

Friday is time for the next Fernley Main Street Cruise.

• Friday evening is when the weekly Fernley Quarantine Main Street Cruise happens. Times are from 7 until 9 p.m. and the meeting place is at the Wigwam.

Saturday afternoon’s Classic Old Car Show will benefit the DAV.

• Besides the Atlantis show there are two car show that dovetail together in Reno. First, from 11 until 2 p.m. is the Classic Old Car show at the Sportsman Warehouse on Kietzke Lane by the freeway. Proceeds benefit the Disable American Veterans.

An Evening of Classic Cars is at the Emerson Bar in Midtown.

• Down in Midtown its An Evening of Classic Cars by the Emerson Bar. The event runs from 2 until 8 p.m. and there will be music as well as a food truck.

• Sunday begins at 9 a.m. when Sparks Cars & Coffee has its monthly meet. Location is at Buffalo Wild Wings in Sparks.

Brunch ‘N Classics merges with Hot August Night City Cruises and ends with a cruise on the McCarren Loop.

Then at 11 a.m. the Hot August Nights City Cruises merges with the monthly Brunch ‘N Classics off Plumb Lane in Reno. When that function ends it will be time to cruise the McCarran Loop.

Monday is when everyone can catch their breath before next week’s car meets and cruises began.

RACING (REGIONAL):• Now that the fire up in the Susanville area and the one north of Reno that had 395 blocked it’s time to race again at Diamond Mountain Speedway. This will be the next round of the I-80 Challenge and features two nights full of racing with five classes.

Diamond Mountain Speedway hosts the next round of the I-80 Challenge this Friday and Saturday nights.

On Friday racing begins at 6 p.m. after the 5 p.m. pit meeting followed by hot laps. Saturday’s racing begins at 5 p.m. after a 4 p.m. pit meeting followed by hot laps.

RACING (MOTOCROSS):

• As usual the MX track at 95 Motor Sports Complex will have practice Thursday from 2 until 7 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• Over the hill the tracks will be busy with practice sessions and races. MMX hosts an OTHG race on the sand track Saturday with practice sessions on the main and kid’s tracks from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday all three tracks are open for practice from 9 until 3 p.m.

• All three of the REP racing tracks will be busy.

     + E Street has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

     + Prairie City requires on line preregistration for Saturday’s practice      that runs from 9 until 2 p.m. but Sunday the track is closed as it has been rented.

REP Racing schedule for the 2020 Saturday Night Series.

     + Riverfront has open practice from 5 until 10 p.m. on Thursday. Then the track has the third round of this year’s 2020 Saturday Night Series. Gates open at noon, practice starts at 4 p.m. with racing to follow.

This week’s 2020 Sundayz Series race has moved to the Bay Area.

• This weekend the 2020 Summer Sundayz series moved to the Argyll MX track in the Bay Area. Gattes open at 6:30 am. with practice starting at 8 a.m. and racing following that. For further information check the website at www.argyllmx.com.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• On Thursday Fox Sports 2 at 11 a.m. has Formula E racing from Berlin, Germany. Then at 3:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub and at 7 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30.

• Friday is slim but at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 broadcast the Gander Outdoors Truck race from Michigan.

If one wants to see other racing you might try www.mavtv.com or, for you World of Outlaws fans try www.dirtvision.com.

• Saturday gets rolling at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN has Formula 1 qualifying from Silverstone. Yes it the second week in Britian close to where most of the teams are headquartered.

Then at 9 a.m. NBC Sports has the Xfinity race from Road America where they turn left and right. At noon Fox Sports 1 has MotoAmerica from Pittsburg. Then at 4 p.m. the first of two NASCAR Cup races are broadcast by NBC Sports.

• Sunday marks the second visit to Indianapolis by the NHRA. The series has condensed its racing to the Midwest due to travel restrictions. At 8 a.m. Fox Sports has qualifying then at 10 a.m. FOX will broadcast the final runs.

ESPN broadcasts the Formula 1 race from Silverstone beginning at 6:05 a.m. Then at 11 a.m. mavtv airs the ARCA race from Michigan.

At noon Fox Sports has the second MotoAmerica race from Pittsburg then at 1:30 p.m. NBC Sports airs the second NASCAR Cup race from Michigan.
