RACING PREVIEW: AUGUST 27 TO 30

RENO, NV (Aug. 2 6) – As we head toward the end of August there are plenty of car meets, cruises plus racing in our region for any fan. In addition there is more than enough racing on TV and the Internet.

CAR MEETS & CRUISES:

Fernley Main Street Cruise announcement.

• The weekend gets rolling on Friday from 7 until 9 p.m. with the Fernley Quarantine Main Street Cruise. Meeting place is at the Wigwam.

Rolled Mountain Creamery is having a “Drive In and Chill Out,” from Friday through Sunday.

• Rolled Mountain Creamery in Reno is having a Drive in and Chill Out Friday through Sunday night. No time was given but if you like ice cream might be something to check out in the evening.

• On Sunday Reno Euro Cars & Coffee is having their “Euro 6” Cruise. The name comes from the map where the route resembles the number “6.”

Meet up time is at 8 a.m. at the Century Summit Sierra. Nice day to get out of the valley and hopefully up to fresher air as well as cooler temperatures.

RACING (REGIONAL):

This weekend’s Silver Cup ends Battle Mountain Raceway’s season with a two-day show.

• Friday and Saturday Battle Mountain Raceway ends it season with the annual Silver Cup races. On Friday gates open at 5 p.m. with racing starting at 7 p.m.

On Saturday gates open at 10 a.m. and Outlaw Karts race at noon then at 7 p.m. the cars will begin their racing.

This Saturday evening 95 Motor Sports Complex returns to action.

• Closer to home 95 Motor Sports Complex has their next race with the action beginning at 7 p.m. Fortunately some of the problems getting water have been solved and the show will run a whole lot faster. On the card are the IMCA A Mods, Dwarf Cars, Hobby Stocks and the Boot-Leg division.

MOTOCROSS (PRACTICE AND RACING):

• The motocross track at 95 Motor Sport Complex should have sessions from 2 until 7 p.m. Thursday then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday but due to the oval racing none on Saturday.

Final round of the 2020 Summer Sundayz series is this Sunday.

• MMX Racing in Marysville has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday. Sunday is when the fourth and final round of the 2020 Summer Sundayz series is held. Gates open at 6:30 a.m., practice begins at 8 a.m. with racing to follow.

There is open practice from 9 until 3 p.m. on the vintage main and kid’s tracks.

• REP Racing has sessions on two of its three tracks.

     + E Street has sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

     + Riverfront has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. on Thursday. Saturday is      reserved for the Sierra Old Timers from 9 until 2 p.m. then Sunday, at      those same times, is open practice on the front and back courses.

• Unfortunately Prairie City has no water so the entire park is closed for the time being. Hopefully that will be resolved soon.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Once a busy week for racing series and NASCAR returns to the Daytona Motor Speedway.

• Thursday has NASCAR Race Hub at 3 p.m. on Fox Sports 1. Then at 7:30 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30.

• Friday is pretty slim but at 4:30 p.m. NBC Sports has the Xfinity race from Daytona.

• Saturday is a busy day and starts early at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN has Formula 1 qualifying from the historic course at Spa.

• This time the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series is at Crawfordsville and a bit of channel switching might be necessary.

     + MAVTV and NBC Gold broadcast the first motos with the250’s going at 10 a.m. and an hour later at 11 a.m. the first 450 moto will be broadcast.

     + Then things switch to NBC Gold as that network broadcasts the second 250  moto at noon followed at 1 p.m. by the second 450 moto.

• The Indy Car series is at Gateway this weekend for a double header and at 12:30 p.m. NBC Sports airs their first race.

• At 1 p.m. www.mavtv.com has the first MotoAmerican Superbike race from Ridge Motorsports Park located north of Shelton,Washington.

• Then at 4 p.m. NBC broadcast the NASCAR Cup race from Daytona. I believe this time all the series will use the entire oval.

• ESPN gets Sunday rolling at 6:05 a.m. when the network airs the Formula 1 race from Spa.

After that from 6 a.m. until noon Mobil 1 on their Face Book page brings live coverage of this year’s Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb. It’s a wild ride up to the summit on a unforgiving course.

Then at 9 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Gander RV & Outdoors Truck series from Gateway outside of St. Louis.

• Over on NBC Sports at 12:30 p.m. the Indy Cars have their second race of the weekend at Gateway. Then at 3 p.m. the network airs the second MotoAmerica Superbike race of the weekend.

• Finally the afternoon ends on NBC Sports at 3 p.m. with the World Superbike race from Portugal.
