RACING PREVIEW: SEPTEMBER: 10 TO 13

RENO, NV (Sept 9) – Racing Preview this week has a bunch of car meets, cruises as well as racing both 4-wheel and 2-wheel. There is also a bunch to watch on TV.

CAR MEETS & CRUISES:

Fernley Cruise Announcement.

• Once again the weekend gets going with the Fernley Quarantine Main Street Cruise from 7 until 9 p.m. on Friday. The meet up location is the Wigwam.

REPORTER’S NOTE: Would someone find out if these will continue through September or have ended. Then let me know. Thanks.

• On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. there is a Thursday Night Cruise and Car Show in Carson City. Its open to all cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Yes Thursday Night Cruise is actually on Saturday.

The location is 911 East Second Street and there will be a raffle plus prizes. And yes it was listed as a Thursday Night Cruise but is being held on Saturday.

Car and Bike show announcement.

• Out in Fernley on Saturday there is a car and bike show at 95 Motor Sports Complex. Hours are from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and there will be a raffle plus food vendors. When the show closes racing is slated to begin on the oval track.

Sparks Cars & Coffee announcement.

• There are two car meet events on Sunday. Starting things off is the monthly Sparks Cars & Coffee meet at Buffalo Wild Wings. Things start at 9 a.m. and the location is close to the Sparks Target store.

Brunch & Classics monthly cruise announcement.

• Then at 11 a.m. there is the monthly Brunch ‘N Classic show and cruise. Location is at the Redwood Rotisserie & Grill  at 860 East Plumb Lane in Reno.

RACING (REGIONAL):

Final $5 Friday is this week. Runs from 6 p.m. until midnight.

• Top Gun Dragstrip ends its shortened season this weekend with three days of action. Starting the weekend is the final $5 Friday.

Admissionis only $5 but for $15 more one can race their car on the strip. Good way to see how fast you car can go or grudge race a friend and the show begins at 6 p.m.

This week ends the season for Top Gun Dragstrip.

Saturday and Sunday will be busy days on the track as the final Summit ET and Junior dragster rounds will be held. Championships could be on the line. Both days begins at 9 a.m. when drivers dial in then eliminations begin after that.

In addition Saturday has the NHRA All Access Top Gunner Shoot Out while Sunday has the King of the Hill competition.

One featured event this weekend is the annual Mopars vs the World competition.

Adding more spice to the show is the annual Mopars vs the World competition. There are cash prizes for those racing this event so it should be a good show and the season will end on a high note.

After being flooded out the oval at 95 Motor Sports Complex is ready and racing resumes Saturday.

• After a lot of hard work the track crew at 95 Motor Sports Complex had gotten the oval back to where it can be raced on. Racing begins at 6 p.m. In order to race a class is supposed to have at least six cars and it should be a good show.

MOTORCYCLE RACING AND PRACTICE:

• This weekend MRANN begins its fall season with the 11th annual Corey Herring Memorial European Scrambles. The venue is the Honey Lake course south of Susanville, California.

The 11th annual Corey Herring Memorial starts MRANN’s fall season of off road racing.

On Saturday things start with the Pee Wee race at 9 a.m. followed at 10:30 with the mini bikes and 65cc amateurs. Then at 1 p.m. it’s the Saturday Women, Bombers and Vintage racers.

Sunday is all big bikes and starts at 8:30 a.m. with the experts getting first crack at the course. At 11 a.m. the Novice racers get their turn then at 1:30 p.m. the day ends with the Amateur race.

This even also helps fund the Corey Herring Scholarship fund.

• Since they are bringing more dirt to improve the course the latest word is there is no practice on the motocross track at 95 Motor Sports Complex. They hope to be back next week.

• Right now MMX Racing is slated for practice both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. the main, sand and kid’s tracks will be open. Sunday practice is from 9 until 3 p.m. when the vintage, main, sand and kid’s tracks will be used.

However due to the smoke from several fires it is best to call ahead and see if practice is still going on. One can either check the MMX Racing Face Book page or call their number at, 1-530-777-974.

• REP Racing’s three tracks also have smoke problems. There was supposed to be an update but as 9:30 Wednesday that had not been done.

Due to it being such a fluid situation before one loads up either check the Face Book page, the website www.repracingmx.com or the hotline at 1- 775-265-7223. Hate to have someone make a wasted trip.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• On Thursday NASCAR Race Hub is at 3 p.m. on Fox Sports 1 then at 5 p.m. the network broadcasts the Gander Outdoors Truck Series race from Richmond.

• Friday is slim pickings but at 4 p.m. NBC Sports airs the first of two Xfinity races from Richmond.

• It starts getting busy on Saturday when ESPN 2, at 5:55 a.m., has Formula 1 qualifying from Mugello, Italy.

Then at 11 a.m. NBC Sports has the second Xfinity race from Richmnd. At that same time www.mavtv.com has the first MotoAmerica Super Sport race from Millville, New Jersey.

NBC Sports continues at 2 p.m. with the first Indy Car race from Mid Ohio then at 4:30 p.m. has the NASCAR Cup race from Richmond.

• Sunday has an early start at 6:05 a.m. when ESPN 2 has the Formula 1 race from Mugello, Italy. Over on mavtv at 10 a.m. there is the second MotoAmerica Super Sport race from New Jersey.

Over on NBC at 10 a.m. the network broadcasts the second Indy Car race of the weekend at the Mid Ohio course. This is going to be a test of the crews and driver’s condition to race twice on this course.

Next are two same-day-delayed races. The first is at 1:30 p.m. when NBC Sports has the Moto GP race from Misano. Then at 3:30 p.m. CBS Sports has the DTM (German Touring Car) race from the Nurburgring.
