RACING PREVIEW: SEPT. 17 TO 20

RENO, NV (Sept.16) – As summer draws to a close this Racing Preview is full of car meets, a scavenger hunt plus plenty of racing in our region and on TV.

CAR MEETS/CRUISES:

Fernley Cruise announcement.

• As usually the weekend gets rolling with the Main Street Cruise. The event runs from 7 until 9 p.m. and the Wigwam is the meeting place.

• Sunday is a busy day for car people and Baldinis gets things rolling with the September to Remember Show & Shine. It’s hosted by the Northern Nevada Classics. The show runs from 9 until 3 p.m . and benefits the SPCA.

• Reno Cars & Coffee also has a meet starting at 10 a.m. however I’m not exactly certain of the location this time. I recommend checking their Face Book page either Friday or Saturday.

Reno, Sparks, Fernley & Pizza announcement.

• The day ends at 5 p.m. when the Reno, Sparks, Fernley Cars & Pizza meets at the Round Table Pizza in Fernley. Nice way to be with car people and end the weekend.

SPECIAL EVENTS:

• On Sunday Reno Area Dirt Riders are holding their 2nd Annual Peavine Maze Scavenger Hunt Ride. This starts at 10 a.m. and will be a family event.

The group just finished doing a lot of work on the Peavine Maze so it’s a good time to enjoy those trails. Anyone that has a dirt bike should join this group as they advocate for those riders.

• For those that signed up for this year’s Virginia City Grand Prix and paid their entry fee here is the information on how get your refund.

Hopefully the race will be back at its normal time next year. I can only imagine the economic hit Virginia City took when this was canceled after it appeared to have been approved.

MRANN hiring a web administrator and social media ambassador.

• Have good computer skills, self motivated and love motorcycles? Well MRANN is looking for a web administrator and social media ambassador. The selection is on October 1st so be sure to put your name on the list.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• Rattlesnake Raceway gets the weekend off to a start with a two-day show. On Friday, starting at 7 p.m. then have a points race.

Announcement for Saturday’s day race at Rattlesnake Raceway.

Then on Saturday the track hosts its final points race of the shortened season starting at 11 a.m. This time the Pro Stocks are going to be there.

• Over in Fernley that same day 95 Motor Sports Complex is hosting another race on the oval. The action begins at 6 p.m. and also includes pro stocks.

• On Sunday the Northern Nevada Kart Club hosts the fifth race of its season at Desert Park Raceway. Things get going around 10 a.m. as there are two heats and mains for each class.

Drivers are encouraged to pre-register by 6 p.m. Saturday through the club’s website at www.nnkcreno.com.

MOTOROSS PRACTICE AND RACING:

• Since they are altering the motocross track for a MRANN race there will probably be not practice sessions at 95 Motor Sports Complex.

• Battle Born MX has restarting its season and this weekend will journey to Carlin for Saturday and Sunday. The event is hosted by GRMX and online registration is encouraged.

• MMX will have practice sessions this weekend. Saturday’s times are from 9 until 2 p.m. on the main, sand and kid’s tracks.

Sunday’s times are from 9 until 3 p.m. with the main, sand and kid’s tracks for practice. The vintage track is reserved for an OSMX ride day.

• This weekend REP Racing MX has practice sessions as well las a race planned.

     + Riverfront MX Park has practice Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. The weekend is reserved for Sierra OTHG. Saturday’s practice is from 9 until 2 p.m.

     Gates open at 6:30 a.m. Saturday with practice beginning a 8 a.m. and      racing in the Run What You Brung to follow.

     + E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

     + Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and      Sunday. Since this track has a restriction on the amount of people one s     hould pre-register on line at www.repracingmx.com.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday has an early stat at 8:05 a.m. when www.motortrendondemand.com airs qualifying from the 24 Hours of Le Mans classic.

Then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub after that at 4:30 p.m. the network broadcasts the Gander RV & Outdoors Truck race from Bristol. Then at 6:30 p.m. the network airs the ARCA race from Bristol.

• Friday is a bit slim but at 4 p.m. NBC Sports has the Xfinity race from Bristol. For all three top NASCAR series Bristol begins the Play Offs.

• Saturday starts early at 4:30 a.m. when the 24 Hours of Le Mans starts. The twice around the clock classic will be broadcast live on www.motortrendondemand.com.

• This week the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series visits the Spring Creek track in Minnesota. Once again some channel switching might be necessary.

Both www.mavtv.com and NBC Sports Gold have the first motos with the 250’s starting at 11 a.m. followed at noon by the 450’s.

The second motos are live on NBC Sports Gold with the second 250 moto beginning at 1 p.m. followed at 2 p.m. by the second 450 moto.

Then at 4:30 p.m. NBC Sports air the NASCAR Cup race from the high banked Bristol Motor Speedway. It’s a kin to having rocket ships in a bathtub and usually has a lot of action.

Over on Fox Sports 1 at 1 p.m. there is the first MotoAmerica Super Bike race from Barber Motorsports Park.

• Sunday still has the 24 of Le Mans going until 6 a.m. when the checkered flag finally flies.

For two wheel fans NBC Sports, starting at 4:30 a.m., broadcasts a MotoGP race from Italy. Then at noon Fox Sports 1 has the second MotoAmerica Super Bike race from Barber Motorsports Park.

Finally at 3:30 p.m. CBS Sports had a DTM  (German Touring Car) race from Nurburgring.

• Teresa’s Garage Radio Show will be on from 2 until 3 p.m., Pacific Daylight Savings Time, Tuesday afternoon. In the Reno/Sparks area it can be heard live at 1180 AM.
