RACING PREVIEW: OCT. 29 TO NOV. 1

RENO, NV (Oct. 28) – A bunch of items to cover for this Halloween weekend. Much is happening with car meets and other things plus racing here and over the hill. Not to mention national and international events.

CAR MEETS:

The Newton Learning Center in Reno is hosting a Trunk or Treat on Halloween.

• Saturday, Halloween, gets started with the 2nd annual Trunk or Treat at the Newton Learning Center Parking lot. The event begins at 10 a.m. and runs until noon.

Early Halloween afternoon there is another Trunk or Treat event in Sparks.

• After that it’s off to 350 Greg Street in Sparks as between 3 and 5 p.m. there is another Halloween Trunk or Treat Car Show. During the show they’ll have a costume contest as well as a trunk contest and other things.

Summit Racing in Sparks is hosting a Trunk or Treat car show in Sparks.

• From there the action moves over to Summit Racing in Sparks as they have a Trunk or Treat show from 5 until 7 p.m. with cars, fun and games.

• Moving east there are two drive-through Trick or Treat events in Fernley. This year’s Spooktacular, running from 4 until 6 p.m. is actually in the parking lot of the Out of Town Park.

This is the second Trick or Treat drive through in Fernley on Halloween.

In town at 375 E. Stanley Drive, from 5:30 until 7 p.m. there is another Trick and Treat drive through.

• Fallon is also going to have a Trick or Treat party at the Lowell’s. Hours are from 8 until 11:30 p.m. and there will be a haunted house plus other things.

• Sunday is a bit calmer as Reno Cars & Coffee has its first of the month meet at the Kietzke Starbucks. The meet begins at 10 a.m. and with nice weather on tap it should be a good show.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• The big race in our immediate area is when the Tankslippers Motorcycle Club host the annual Halloween race as part of the MRANN series.

 

Tankslappers Motorcycle Club hosts this weekend’s MRANN race out at Nightingale, east of Fernley.

 The two-day event begins Saturday at 9:30 when the Pee Wees launch. After their race it’s time for the Mini Bikes/Saturday Women/Bombers and Vintage bikes.

Saturday is usually when there is trick or treating and many of the Pee Wee racers are in costumes for their event.

Sunday at10 a.m. is when all three bike classes get their turn on the long course. A rider must complete at least one of the 50-mile long loops to be classed as a finisher.

RACING/PRACTICE MX:

• This weekend MMX Racing not only has practice sessions but is hosting a race as well. The weekend’s practice happens on the main, sand and kid’s track going from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday.

MMX Racing hosts this weekend’s AHRMA race on Sunday.

The vintage track is reserved for this weekend’s AHRMA event. Saturday from 9 until 2 is for practice on Sunday the gates open at 6 a.m., practice begins at 8 a.m. with racing to follow.

• REP Racing MX also has practice and a race at one of its three tracks.

     + E Street has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

     + Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. While not mentioned this time it’s usually a good to sign up on the website at www.repracingmx.com.

     + This week’s round of the 2020 Fall Series has had a change of venue as      the race will be run at Riverfront.

The 2020 Fall Series schedule that REP Racing is hosting. NOTE THE NOVEMBER 1 RACE WILL ACTUALLY BE AT RIVERFRONT.

     The track has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday. On Saturday gates      open at 8 a.m. with practice running from 9 until 2 p.m. and later there      will be trick or treating.

     Sunday gates open at 7 a.m. with practice beginning at 9 a.m. with racing      to follow.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday get rolling at 7 a.m. when Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30 recapping the round in Dallas. Then at 8:30 p.m. the NHRA in 30 show recaps Houston.

Fox Sports 1 at 3 p.m. has NACAR Race Hub.

• Friday has Fox Sports 1, at 5 p.m., airing the Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series racing the Paper Clip or Martinsville Speedway.

• Saturday has an early start at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 shows Formula 1 qualifying from Monza, Italy. Then at 12:30 pm. NBC broadcasts the Xfinity race from Martinsville.

• Sunday is a busy day beginning at 4:05 a.m. when ESPN 2 broadcast the Grand Prix of Italy when the Formula 1 teams take to the classic track at Monza. The network later repeats the broadcast at 5 p.m.

The NHRA ends its season this weekend in Las Vegas with the World Championship Finals. There will be no race at Pomona this year. Photo courtesy -NHRA.com.

Fox Sports 1 at 11 a.m. has NHRA qualifying from Las Vegas then at 1 p.m. the World Championship Finals. There will be no Pomona this year and while fans can attend this event NHRA said all the tickets have been sold.

NBC, at 11 has the NASCAR Cup race from Martinsville Speedway. This short track puts huge demands on brakes and will tax any driver’s patience. It’s another important race for those chasing the championship.

The weekend ends at 3:30 p.m. when NBC Sports airs the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship race from Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca. The series ends its altered 2020 schedule in mid November with the delayed 12-Hours of Sebring.
