RACING PREVIEW: DEC.31 TO JANUARY 3, 2021

RENO, NV (Dec 30) – Well here we are, the final Racing Preview of 2020 and we’re about to head into 2021. And thankfully we’re taking the first steps away from the Re-Run Zone and getting to live racing.

REPORTER’S NOTE: Apparently there is weather heading our way so be sure to check with the hot lines before heading out. Hopefully it will hold off so events listed can happen.

CAR MEETS:

• As usual the month begins as Reno Cars & Coffee hosts another meet at the Kietzke Starbucks. If the weather cooperates there is usually a very good turn out of all types of cars and sometimes trucks.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• Stockton Dirt Rack gets 2021 rolling with the Racing Into The New Year event on January 1 has many classes including the Tri-State Pro Stocks. Gates open at 9 a.m., the Cold Pass Gares at 1 p.m. with the green flag waving at 2 p.m.

• On Saturday Marysville Raceway will host a play day for all classes. Unfortunately there will be no spectators in the grand stands but practice runs from noon until 4 p.m.

Weather permitting there will be at least two days of action at Sacramento Raceway and maybe a third. Poster courtesy – Sacramento Raceway.

• Drag racers will also get this year rolling at Sacramento Raceway and it might be three days of action. If the race is a rain out it will be run on January 10.

Right now Friday is scheduled as test and tune day from noon until 4 p.m. Then Saturday gates open aet 8 a.m. with racing going from 10 until p.m.

Now Sunday has the Winter Warm Up schedule with grudge racing and testing. That also goes from 10 until 4 p.m. but one might want to double check on this.

MOTOCROSS:

• The two wheeled set is getting the new year started with a bang.

• This time we’ll start with REP Racing as it’s marathon week. Due to incoming weather E Street is closed and Prairie City maybe also. Best to check the hotline for any updates and that is 1-775-265 7223.

     + Riverfront starts the weekend on December 31 with practice but only for OTHG members from 9 until 2 p.m. and at 8 a.m. he gates will open. It’s suggested that folks register online at www.repracingmx.com.

     + Friday is Marathon Day with gates opening at 6:30 a.m. and the attached poster has the times for all the races.

• Then on Saturday, January 2nd MMX Racing gets into the act with the annual Hangover Classic. The format is Grand Prix style so the races are timed with the first one going off at 8:00 a.m.

Once again it’s best to check with their hotline at 530-419-5200. If there is practice on Sunday it will be from 9 until 3 p.m. but once again check first.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• As we lurch back into the Re-Run Zone it’s all repeats until Sunday when live racing returns. And as usually www.mavtv.com does a lot of the heavy lifting.

• Thursday at 1 p.m. mavtv has Pro Motocross from Red Bud 2 and they are showing the first motos. Then at 4 p.m. there is Speed Sport followed by two hours of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series action.

• Friday is also when mavtv shoulders the load starting at 1 p.m. with FIA Karting frm Adria, Italy followed at 1:30 with Monster Trucks. Then at 2 p.m. the network broadcasts the Ultimate Karting Championships and 3 p.m. they have Arenacross.

•  Saturday begins at noon when mavtv airs the Hoosier Arenacross followed at 2 p.m. by last year’s ARCA Menards race from Daytona and at 4 p.m. there is another FIA Karting event this time from Sarno, Italy.

• On Sunday mavtv also has repeats but this is when live racing returns.

NBC Sports at 4:30 p.m. has a recap of Stage 1 for this year’s Dakar Rally. It’s in Saudia Arabia and there are 12 stages covered in 14 days. Be sure to check TV Guide as NBC Sports and maybe www.youtube.com may have recaps of the day’s action.

Variety is the name as there are all types of racers from motorcycles to some huge trucks the Russians bring as well as all out desert racing cars. It’s a wild event get 2021 started.

Later CBS Sports airs off-road racing with a series showing different classes in this sport. Things begin at 5 p.m. with Pro Buggy and Pro 2 trucks. Then at 6 p.m. it’s Turbo UTV followed by Pro Lite and 1000 UTV. After that the classes are repeated.
