RENO, NV (March 13) – This weekend’s Racing Preview is full of events, both live and on TV with some on the Internet.
There are announcements at the end but the probably the most important one is that Day Light Savings Time begins Sunday morning. Remember to set your clock ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday night.
CAR MEETS:
• This Sunday starting at 10 a.m. Sparks Cars & Coffee will once again meet by Buffalo Wild Wings in Sparks. Last time they had a pretty good turn out of cars.
• Carson Cars & Coffee is also meeting but at a different location, time and their meet is also a cruise in. Things get going at 11 a.m. by the North Carson Starbucks, close to the Bully’s.
Then at noon they cruise over to the grand reopening of Shelton Racing & Fabrication in their new location on U.S. 50. There will be music and food available so should be a good time.
PRACTICE & RACING (MX AND LIVE):
• There are two racing events in our immediate area this weekend. On Saturday the NorCal SxS series will visits the off road course at 95 Motor Sports Complex. It’s all side-by-side action with several classes competing in what will probably be an all-day event.
• To the east and west of Lovelock above Toulon there will be two days of off road motorcycle action. Both MRANN and AMA District 36 are combining to run the Wild Horse Sprint Enduro. For more information please check www.racemrann.com.
• With the weather clearing by the weekend over at the Stockton 99 paved track on Saturday there will be an evening of oval track racing. It’s the Asparagus 125 Cup that’s up for grabs with the Spears Pro Late Model series going for that award.
• Sunday has the 2021 Frigid 6 series moving over to the Argyll MX track for round 5 of the series. Remember it will be Daylight Savings Time and for further information please check the track’s website at www.argyllmx.com.
• Although rains washed out the Wednesday practice sessions MMX Racing should be having practice sessions both Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. on Sunday.
• REP Racing said the Thursday’s practice at Riverfront is off due to rains over there. Unfortunately there was not update, probably due to the uncertain weather over there.
So the best advice is to either call the hot line at 1-775-265-7223 or check the website at www.repracingmx.com for any updates. With the weather drying out I’m going to guess the weekend practice sessions will happen.
RACING (NATIONAL):
• Thursday is pretty empty but a good day to catch up on events one may have missed. There are several sites to check out if one is so inclined.
Of course www.youtube.com is one of them as well as www.mavtv.com. Others include www.dirtovaltv.com, www.floracing.com, www.dirtvision.com, and short track tv, which is on You Tube.
• Friday action begins at 4:30 p.m. when mavtv airs the ARCA race from Phoenix, Arizona.
• Saturday is pretty full with many different events on tap.
Just a few years ago the Daytona 200, a motorcycle race on the road course, started Daytona Bike week. Now it ends it and NBC Sport Gold has a double header. It all begins at 10 a.m. with the 79th running of the Daytona 200 then at 4 p.m. switches to the Volusia Half Mile for an American Flat Track event.
At noon Fox Sports 1 has qualifying from the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainsville, Florida that starts their season. Then at 2:30 p.m. the network broadcasts the Xfinity race from Phoenix.
Over on NBC Sports at 5 p.m. that network has the AMA Supercross event from Texas. Finally at 5 p.m. mavtv has Madera Speedway’s opening event and this is also live streamed on Short track TV which can be seen on You Tube.
• Once again remember Sunday is when Daylight Savings Time begins so be sure to set your clock forward an hour.
• Fox Sports 1 at 8 a.m. has Sunday qualifying from the NHRA season opener. At 9 a.m. the action switches to FOX as that network airs the final rounds of the Gatornationals.
A bit later in the day, at 12:30 p.m. Fox then airs the NASCAR Cup race from Phoenix. After the long track in Las Vegas they race on a shorter one-mile oval.
• As many know Bristol Motor Speedway has brought in clay and will be a dirt track for the next few weeks. This coming week there are a series of late model races, starting on Tuesday I believe. There are heats and final races to set the fields for next weekend.
One can watch them on www.racxr.com, a subscription site. It should be a crazy time and some NASCAR Cup drivers are going to complete. Probably a good idea so they’ll know what the track is like before the big teams arrive.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
• The planned work on the return and pit road at Top Gun Dragstrip this weekend has been postponed. Apparently it would be too cold for the concrete to set right. A new date should be announced shortly.
• If one wants to attend the ride day and banquet for MRANN time is running out. The last day to buy a ticket is March 14 as they won’t be sold at the event. The website is www.racemrann.com.
• Registration is now open for the first Nevada VORRA event this season, the Hawthorn 250. The place to register is www.vorraracing.com.
OTHER RACING NEWS:
• Unfortunately the Northern Nevada Modified Tour, due to schedule conflicts, won’t be visiting Rattlesnake Raceway this season. So the track opens it’s 2021 season with a Friday/Saturday show on April 23rd and 24th.
• Teresa’s Garage Radio Show is on from 2 until 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoons. It can be heard over the air on 1060 AM.
The show is also on a Podcast at amm.streamon.fm or can be seen on Facebook. Co-host Emily Cook is a young racer and has a website, www.emilycookracing.com where she sells merchandise to help fund her efforts.
